Mmm, that's a very interesting question. The last time I weighed mine it was around 75 grams of dried oats, which I make with water and count as around 280 cals. However, I had thought it was only 50 grams (which I think is what is on the packets!)

I'll have to reweigh tomorrow as I am sure the size has crept up - it will be very good to know what others do!

It can take a little getting used to if you are used to making it with milk. I always think it has a slightly metallic taste but maybe that's just our plumbing! :D

Hi Steve,

I use packet porridge (it's the Quaker Oat's one called 'Oat So Simple' and it's the 'original' version) - each sachet has 27g of porridge. I add 200ml of soya milk (unsweetened) and then 10g of breakfast topper (which consists of various grains and seeds) and then I add about 4 cashew nuts and 6 almonds. I find it tasty and satisfying and usually sees me through till lunchtime.

Hope your weekend is going well.

Lowcal :-)

Hi Steve, you could get sachets already measured for you, each sachet of Quaker Oats at least is roughly 150 calories before milk is added. Plus they taste great!

I follow the instructions on the box I have and use 40g oats and 250ml of liquid (either milk or half and half milk and water) before cooking it in the microwave. Half and half milk and water gives me a calorie count of 186, but this will depend on the type of oats you are using. Mine are just plain porridge oats and so are unsweetened, an aquired taste for some people!

mine are the same taste dont worry me i just think how its helping me get to where i want to be

Hi Fatsteve

Finally weighed my porridge - 65 g. Making it with water is an acquired taste, but I have got used to it. If my hubby makes it for both of us, it has 2/3 milk 1/2 water, and is much nicer but I prefer to go for the lower calories (plus he can get away with putting cream and sugar on his. The last time though I put cream on it, it was too rich - some progress I suppose).

Hi,

I have 30g of Traditional porridge oats (being a Scot) with 200ml water. I do add Splenda to sweeten it !!

It has a thinner consistency than with milk but you get used to it.
