An amputation? Serious life threatening illness and a stay in ICU?

Not sure what you are looking for.

If you did manage to lose three stone that quickly which I doubt you could it would all pile back on

You can't. Realistically it's going to take you six months to lose that amount. How long did it take you to put it on?!!!

VLCD (very Low calorie Diet)s like LighterLife or the cambridge diet have let me loose as much as my first stone within the first week!..in 3 months i went from 12st2 to 9st4.. its basically nutritional shakes and soups sachets and water ONLY..no juices..chewing gum..nothing. HOWEVER…I TOTALLY agree with Julie1973… I put it all back on very fast!! I got constipated because I left the diet and ate other foods instead of following the diet through to maintenance with my group and counsellor (you have weekly group meetings with a given local councillor…theyre great and advise you).. If its NOT followed properly all the way through then you will put it ALL back on very easily.

Its not cheap either!!

I lost just short of 2st in a month due to depression 3 years ago. That 2 stone plus more went back on with a vengeance when I suddenly developed a craving for nothing but shortbread biscuits and anything else that was sweet!! Been near to Xmas didn't really help all that much either lol. Have you thought of trying body by vi? That's fantastic for weight loss if you follow it properly and the shakes taste great too!! You get a base flavour which is sweet cream (tastes just like cake mix) then you can add fruits, flavourings anything that takes your fancy in reason of course my favourite was banana and blueberry or blueberry and cinnamon but there's a whole list of different flavours to try. Visalus shakes are also great for IBS diabetes high blood pressure and many more things too. It can be expensive the basic pack was about £39 for a 2 week supply but if you can get 3 people to join with you you get a month for free. Most people try and do the next pack up which gives you 2 bags of mix not just one think that was £120 I could never afford that which is a shame because everyone I know that's on it have lost 2-3 stone from using it. Plus you don't suddenly pile the weight back on when you stop using it. Sorry for waffling on :-) xx

Is there a reason you want to go to this extreme? I think you might have to accept that in one month a three stone weight loss is completely unrealistic. Why is three stone the magic number? If three stone was my goal then I would aim for doing that over a year not a month!

Remember that if you go down the liquid diet route, you can only do that for a certain period of time. Once you start introducing proper food again, the weight will come back and sometimes with a vengence. My GP HATES the lighter life diets etc.

I agree with everyone else, it is not possible to lose 3 stone in a month without serious risk to your health. The absolute most you could lose would be 2lb per week. About 8-10lb perhaps in a month or 20lb over two months, but that would be really hard to achieve. More realistically you would be looking at losing 10-15lb over two months.

Very low calorie diets are only suitable for those who are very high risk of illness due to their weight and so it is worth the risks of quick weight loss. For example, in order to be able to have life saving surgery. However, I have to say that one of my friends tried this route (to lower her risks for surgery) but she ended up having a mini-stroke during her "diet". Although she recovered OK from the stroke, it made me really aware it is not all healthy to lose weight via extreme diets. During the diet she also was tired all the time, needing a nap during the day and did not have enough energy to join in with anything. In fact you are advised not to do any exercise if you are doing this kind of extreme diet, which sounds completely mad to me from a health view point!! Of course once she stopped the program after her operation she regained the weight, so it didn't even work long term.

Sustainable changes to diet and exercise are a much better idea. Losing even 1 stone will make a big difference and a month from now you will be glad that you got started in a healthy way.

Very Low Calorie Diets should not be undertaken except under medical supervision. There are a range of health risks associated with them, some of those risks being quite serious.

To put it simply, it is very hard, when you reduce your food intake so low, to ensure that you are taking in the FULL range of nutrients that your body needs to function.

I'd seriously recommend against it and would advise you to try to lose weight at the recommended rate of about 1 to 2 lbs a week on average, which will give your body time to adapt to the changes appropriately.

For sure, reduce appropriately the amount of fats and sugars you are eating - if you eat those excessively (and if you've signficantly gained excessive weight, then you probably do) - but remember you still need the full range of nutrition - vitamins, minerals, phyto-chemicals, anti-oxidants, etc., etc., etc.

"You didn't put the weight on overnight, so .....", as they say.

I lost 10lb in 4 weeks I have changed my diet and spend an hour and a half 5 days a week doing cardiovascular very hard thought I would have lost more but happy with that for a start and I'm enjoying it .get yourself down the gym as well as losing weight it makes you feel good and tones your body with the weight loss instead of being saggie ! Good luck
