I am 6ft 3 and 17st 6 my bmi came back... - Weight Loss Support
I am 6ft 3 and 17st 6 my bmi came back 30.3 it says I should lose 4st this can not be right surely.
The bmi calculator suggests a weight that corresponds with a bmi of 22.5 or possibly 22 as it is in the middle of the healthy range. A bmi of 30.3 means you are a little overweight assuming you are not very muscular. The rowers in the boat race were all over a bmi of 25 so it is all based on averages and is not great for men generally.
A BMI of 28.5 or below has no adverse health risks other than orthopaedically so i would suggest you set yourself a target of 2 stone maybe aim for 15st 7lb. See how you feel at that and make a judgement based on waist measurement and how you look and feel.
A BMI calculator is a useful tool for average people it is very poor for very short or very tall, for muscular or disabled people and I read some research which said that a significant percentage of men would struggle to achieve a bmi of 25 quite apart from mid range. You can get a guide as to how large a frame you have based on shoe size wrist measurement and size of yourhands. If you have large wide hands and always struggle to get watch straps large enough then you probably should aim no lower than a bmi of 25 and a bmi of 27 or 28 might be right for you.
When I was young I was skinny with a bmi of 24.5 now I am waiting till I get nearer that point to decide if I am better at that weight or a bit lower or better slightly heavier but able to maintain it rather than yoyoing which is never healthy.
