You can lose that two stone again in four months - you don't have to exercise though obviously if you can move around you will burn some calories. Please watch this excellent BBC programme by Dr Michael Mosley, "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" vimeo.com/54089463 which changed my life. I was very sedentary but managed to lose three stone in six months and my daughter (who was very sceptical!) is losing half a stone a month.

If you can walk then there are some excellent walking videos on YouTube by Leslie Sansone which start at just 15 minutes to walk one mile. You can do it at your own pace.

I used to have very painful knees but having lost three stone my knees are so much more comfortable.

I suffer from gout and arthritis in both knees , also bronchitis and high pressure ,I seriously struggle to get around and have been on steroids for quite a while too.My weight has ballooned to nearly 16 stone and cannot seem to lose a pound.I sympathise with people struggling I find it very depressing .

Please watch that video and then, if you're motivated to try it, there's an excellent book by Kate Harrison called The 5:2 Diet. You honestly can lose half a stone a month on it and then you'll find that all your other symptoms will be very much eased. I know hundreds who have reported not needing tablets for blood pressure or inhalers for their asthma since losing the weight and, as I've said, my knees are now so much better whereas I could hardly get up my stairs before. I always used to feel the need of an afternoon nap, but now I have so much more energy. I really hope you'll try it.

You do not need Slimmers World, or any other slimming club that just wants your money and wants you to put on the weight you lose again when you stop 'dieting' so you have to go back there again! I lost weight previously with these clubs and always put the weight back on again, and more. Since I lost the weight doing the 5:2 Diet I've kept it off by just fasting (500 calories) only one day a week. I haven't been this slim since I was a teenager and I'm now 64. The fattest people I know have got Slimmers World certificates all over their refrigerators!

Hi Gappette

It can be very difficult to know how to lose weight. Some people like to join a group so that they get support every week. Whatever way of eating you choose must be something you that will work for you long term. I know a few people who have done well with Slimming world and WW, but they made sure that they did not buy any of their products!

I have found it best to avoid ready made processed food and sugar as much as possible, so no breakfast cereals for example, or "low fat" anything! I have also cut down on things like bread and pasta, but eat a lot of veg.

This site has been very useful. authoritynutrition.com/12-b...
