I was diagnosed with PCOS in January and I’m only 17 years old and over weight, can anyone give me advice on how to manage my pcos and any weight loss plans that I could try out.

New Diagnosis
Hi hope your well,
I’m glad that you have a diagnosis as it is really difficult when you don’t know. I also suffer from pcos and have for the last 6 years, it is really daunting to go through this.
I’ve had a lot of problems with my weight in the past, as I wasn’t getting my period and when I was it was like once a year and I was piling on the weight like crazy and just didn’t understand why.
I religiously went on so many diets plans and workouts and nothing would work it was really frustrating. later on I found that I was intolerant to many things as to why I was feeling so sick every time I ate and bloated 24/7. I think what worked for me is that I went gluten and diary free mainly gluten and lactose as that had a big impact. I swapped to gluten free products like wholemeal bread, brown rice and pasta, a lot of gluten free products and began cutting out refined sugars and natural sugars as fructose is bad for pcos people due to insulin spike etc. Even fruits many of them have fructose so I had to limit on what I ate, I also began eating healthy fats too and added more protein to my meals and tried to workout what worked for me and what didn’t. I try to do some sort of workout each day but due to other issues isn’t possible always but light workouts are good.
I haven’t reached my goal due to other health reasons, but these kind of things definitely helped me, as it is really frustrating when you don’t know what to do and anything can affect it and you feel so alone but small steps can make a huge difference!
I hope this helps, feel free to private message me for any more advice, happy to help xx
Awh bless you - I was diagnosed last year and I was put on metformin and losing weight gradually but its staying off along with healthy diet and being mindful of sugar have they suggested any medication for you ? Good luck chick xxxx
Birth control worked well for me.
Weight loss, is less food and exercise. Eat like you are a diabetic, less sugar and carbs. I've lost a stone, its been slow but definitely worth taking it seriously. For both your health and if in the future you'd ever like to have children. I know you are fairly young now and maybe not thinking about that..but take it from someone much older, give yourself the best chance for your future self.
Try staying away from carbs..& suger as high potential for Type 2 diabetes. Try natural foods. Fruit veg nuts seeds.. look for itv diet programs. Aswell as low GI diet. I'm not an expert by any means still learning myself but at 17 youve got alot of research you can do. Take control
& arm yourself with knowledge. Beware of medications for your specific diagnosis. Try exercise daily.. even just walking. Look after whst you eat & drink. Everything counts. Dont get to hung up on diet just do your best. & walk exercise it will help. X
