Frozen Tofu

Bear with me on this one lol.

My step son bought lots of tofu in the lockdown. He does body building and eats quite a lot of it.

Anyway he recently told me that he bought it in bulk and had frozen it and now he needed more space in his freezer. So I reluctantly offered to take some off his hands.

I was reluctant for two reasons. One I’m not keen on Tofu and two it had been frozen.

Well it’s a game changer it was so much nicer than I had expected it to be. I googled frozen tofu to find out what the texture would be like. I assumed mushy and tasteless but some recipes actually recommended that you freeze and then thaw before using as it dramatically improves the texture. The one he gave me was called Alberts and it’s really nice so I’d recommend freezing tofu if you haven’t already and give it a try!

Hey thanks for this tip Ali. I would have also thought that freezing it would make it go mushy.

I'm going to have to give it a go again as I'm not sure if I can eat it but would love to be able to as it'll open up a lot more food choices.

Hope you've had a good day.

Alicia :)

Great tip Ali, I would have never have thought of freezing tofu. I will give it a try, like you I am not a fan of those blocks of mushy tofu

Give it a try Debs. We don’t usually have it as neither of us are keen or my son and now we love it 🙂

Yep freezing it really firms the texture. Personally i cut mine into chunks and bake them in the oven coated in Chinese 5 spice and soya sauce and use this to add to salads, wraps etc for lunches through the week

That’s such a good idea. I’m going to do that!

That’s good to hear it works with other tofu too as the texture is so much better. Just had tofish and baked potato. 😋

I've not yet used tofu but want to try a recipe using it. Recipe calls for firm tofu. Do all supermarkets carry this product?
