Hello all,
I've been suffering with extremely dry nostrils recently. Crusty and sometimes bleeding. I've never had this before so I'm not sure if it's related to my CSS.
Anyone had any similar symptoms?
Hello all,

Hi, I've got wg and used to have that problem. I went to ent who prescribed a steroidal nasal spray called beclometasone and also suggested I use an off the counter saline spray called sterimar (it's quite expensive for what is basically a saline solution). Now I live near the sea I don't use the saline spray but I still use the steroidal spray and haven't had nasal crusting for quite a few years.
Hi BB
I've also used Sterimar and I've used a product by NeilMed. I didn't find that these dealt with the crusting but they helped make my nose feel cleaner.
I now use an antibiotic cream - Mupirocin (Bactroban). This, in my case is to keep the staph bugs down but it also has the effect of taking away the dryness and softening all the stuff up there which otherwise feels like lumps of coal.
The last thing you want is to "mess" with your nose (that's putting it nicely) or it will just bleed and you will be adding to the problem. Unfortunately not messing with the inside of your nose is easier said than done. So maybe your GP or consultant can suggest something which might help if the Sterimar or other over-the-counter irrigation remedies don't work. Your pharmacist might be able to recommend something.

I have WG and use Sterimer spray which I am instructed to use twice a day at least, and also Nasonex steroidal spray to be used once a day (2 sprays each nostril at the same time). Both are on repeat prescription.
I was told the nasal dryness was caused by damage to the nasal passages by the WG.
I have been prescribed Bactroban previously. ENT consultants have also told me that the use of Vaseline is OK to ease the dryness so I sometimes use that too.
My ENT consultant has advised me to inform him should I have persistent nasal bleeding, or crusting, as it may indicate a concern and he would want to monitor and treat it as appropriate.

Thanks everyone.
This is a new symptom to me so I am a bit concerned. I have my 6 monthly Rheumy appt soon, so will bring it up with him then.
Hi
I am very new to this, I got diagnosed earlier this year with probable CSS, but in the last 4/5 years I have been constantly suffering with Nasel/Sinus problems, this I now know was the start of my CSS. If you have not had Nasel problems before, I suggest you either see your GP or specialist before taking anything. However, I find NeilMed the only thing I can use to clean my Nasel passage, but was told by the ENT consultant never to take it when my nose was blocked. I had 2 Nasel ops in 1 year to remove polyps and still have trouble with my nose and have no sense of smell. Unfortunately, I cannot take NeilMed now as my Nose is still blocked due to my CSS and Samter's Triad. Hope it clears up soon.
