Can forgetting a dose of pred for one day (15mg) cause a sudden flare that night of pain in every joint? I’m asking for my husband who has vasculitis ....Should he take a double dose today to stop the pains please?

Yes missing a day could easily cause these problems. Steroid doses are probably the most essential drug never to miss a dose of.

Have your husband take today's dose as normal. He should not double up.

From nhs.uk/conditions/steroid-t...

"If you miss a dose or take too much

If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed.

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose."

Thank you hopefully he will feel better by tomorrow and won’t forget a dose in future! 🤞🏻

I think I might suggest taking 20mg, the day after the Forgotten dose, rather than Missing it completely or Doubling Up.

No - don't take a double dose! If you forget one it is OK to take it later in the same day but taking it close to going to bed MAY disturb sleep.

But maybe consider getting a weekly/monthly dosette box so you or he can check easily if he took today's dose. It happens to everyone at some time and if you have something like polymyalgia rheumatica it can well leave you stuck later in the day or overnight before the next dose is due. Gets talked about a lot on the PMRGCAuk HU forum. 15mg should be plenty to get things back on track quickly for most people - but if you have got to a low dose it might take a few days at single dose.

Not what you're looking for?
