Liver involvement in wegeners
I was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis several years prior to the Wegener diagnosis but have been told it's an overlap syndrome. cANCA positive ever since. The liver was initially badly hit by the time this was discovered, two biopsies showed severe fibrosis but it recovered eventually with diet change, zero alcohol, and prednisone.
Thanks so much for your reply. I had a liver scan recently due to raised enzymes and get the results on Friday. The radiologist indicated that there was something there. I hadn't heard of anyone with Wegeners with Liver involvement so I was curious.
I'm hoping whatever it is that it's treatable.
Sounds like you worked a at what was needed to repair your liver with good results. Well done. There's hope for me yet.
Best wishes
And best wishes to you!
Keep in mind that the liver is a large and quite sturdy organ. If your symptoms to date are 'only' raised enzymes, there is every chance for recovery. I didn't realise until after the diagnosis when it was mentioned to me that I had also been more tired than usual. If you are experiencing that as well, I recommend that you do rest as much as you can as it really helps the liver to recover.
Liver problems can be a fairly common side effect of a lot of the medications used to treat Vasculitis. There is also a condition called fatty liver disease which is on the increase. I think that liver involvement with GPA is much rarer than any of these.
It's very anxiety provoking waiting for results!
