What is foot drop? I: I am new here and still... - Vasculitis UK
What is foot drop? I
Damage to peripheral nerves (i.e., nerves to the hands and feet, arms and legs) results from inflammation of the blood vessels that supply the nerves with nutrients. Inflammation in these blood vessels deprives the nerves of their nutrients, leading to nerve infarction (tissue death). Multiple nerve involvement that is characteristic of vasculitis is known as “mononeuritis multiplex”. This condition is frequently associated with wrist or foot drop: the inability to extend the hand “backwards” at the wrist or to flex the foot upward toward the head at the ankle joint.
Woo ok then. I have not been diagnosed yet but reading and associating signs. My second toe is so sore and at night it burns and then the balls of my feet really hurt. It comes and goes. I was told after a 3 week feast on asparagus that I had gout and to slow down on the rich foods and wine. In my silient prayers I hoped and hope that is what it is but I have other CSS signs that tend to make me think differently. Thans for the info. Will have biopsy by Monday or Tuesday and then can stop worrying or start acting. Melinda
That's the spirit! Those of us who have been diagnosed with one of the forms of vasculitis, and there are 18+ types, I have been astounded at the fortitude and determination to try and carry on as normal a life as they can. With the progress that has been made in medical advances most, if not all of us, reach remission when the disease is controlled to a greater extent. Try to stay positive. You can, and will, overcome the disease with the help of the medical professionals.
Thanks for the support. Will keep my happenings posted even if this is not CSS it is critical folks see that such symptoms can help others who are going thought the process and like me trying to illuminate and pin point. All comments are welcome
