i was wondering if anybody has been treated with a plasma exchange and if it was successful in avoiding dialysis

Hi. I was treated with plasma exchange 4 years ago, I was diagnosed with Wg 2 years prior to that and had a relapse with the Wg affecting my kidneys and lungs. I was on the plasma exchange for 10 days and the change in my condition was evident after a few days.

Hi, I also had plasma exchange 4 years ago and that along with the other treatment made a big difference to my condition and definitely helped me a lot. Hope this helps

Hi, I had a week of Plasma exchange after being admitted to hospital 6 years ago with renal failure and then immediately being diagnosed with WG. I JUST avoided dyalisis at each exchange and I swear the plasma exchange saved my life. Except for a couple of small flares I am doing really well now. Good luck

I was diagosed with WG in March 2011 after being admitted to hospital feeling very, very, poorly. My kidney functiion was very low when admitted and I had plasma exchange but had to have dialysis (for about a month).

Thankfully, no dialysis since I am pleased to say and my kidneys are now stable, if a bit low in function due to the damage, but am able to live as normal a life as it is possible with this disease. Back at work etc., etc.

Plasma exchange and the correct/quick treatment helped me to recover I am sure. I'm feeling very well now and even beginning to feel a little bit like my old self at last

My son, 15 had plasma exchanges - about 12 of them, in conjuction with m-pred and dialysis. The WG hit like a big rock with renal failure, which is unrecoverable - so unfortunately plasma echange did not help to avoid dialysis in his case, but I am sure that it halted any deterioration in his lungs.
