painkillers / Pain Relief

Having issues getting the doctors to prescribe painkillers for a sore back. Apparently if you have Mastocytosis you can’t have morphine, codeine, NSAIDS etc Stuck with paracetamol and lidocaine anaesthetic patches.

What does everyone else get?

Sorry, I’ve been in this boat for years. My drugs of choice: a combo of ice, heat, KT tape, massage, rest, hot tub jets - also mindfulness meditation. I know it’s a bummer,

Sometimes, the drs will take pity on me and let me have a couple of days of prednisone.

Best wishes to you.

Oh god really? I thought it was just my docs taking their time. Maybe there is no pain relief available for us 😢. Thanks for your reply.

Just wondered if you'd definitely injured the back or if it could be a systemic symptom? Low back pain is commonly a low cellular vit B12 symptom, for example, and can also be low vit D. No doubt there are others. Are you using magnesium? I find the oil spray very helpful for pain.

Oh now theres a thought, thanks, I never thought about that. I just presumed I hurt my back. Not using magnesium but will definitely look into that. Thank you.

I stopped NSAIDs after being diagnosed with Mastocytosis years ago. I suffered from sciatica this year; I was prescribed co-codamol and wanted it because the pain was so bad. I managed to tolerate co-codamol for months, then went into anaphylaxis multiple times within a short time frame. It was, I think, a combination of the co-codamol and stress that cause the anaphylaxis.

I found hot and cold packs can help. Also, TENS machines were helpful.

Thanks for that information. I was tempted, against doctors orders, to take cocodamol but that has given me the fear. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Everyone is different, but based on my experience, I would have to be in a similar amount of pain again to risk taking co-codamol.

i take the opiate, but i also take as little as possible and my h2 when i take it. i learnt the hard way that nsaids are a major absolutely not! i miss them. they were actually my favourite medication because i have double avascular necrosis in my hips from steroids. and they worked so well.
