Hair loss: Hi , my daughter has always... - Kidney Transplant...
Hair loss
Hi, how distressing- worth getting her B12 and ferritin levels checked?
That's what caused my hair loss.
Suggest she discusses this with her nephrologist. With a suppressed immune system it could be an infection of the hair follicles, although I think this is rare.
Have her talk with her nephrologist! I’m taking biotin supplements, and shampoos that have biotin. My nephrologist also mentioned taking zinc. Any idea from what her blood tests might show?
Hi all bloods are good , not lacking in anything 🤷♀️
Thats great news. The medications she is on for the transplant do cause hair to fall out initially. However as the doctors adjust the dose and the body adjusting to the shock of the surgery and medications, the hair follicles will get healthy and grow hairs again. Please ask her to be patient and don't panic. We all experience the same symptoms as she did and we all got our hair back again. The most important thing is to know is that it is temporary!
Hi. I ost my hair following my kidney transplant and as someone else said on here, biotin tabs and shampoo with same content & zinc prevents further hair loss but she'll need to be consistent with aforementioned...I'm five years post opt and i never got back what i lost which was 1/2 of same, but using above stopped further loss which i'm happy with for i thought i was losing it all, so half a loaf better than none at all, however i also was very upset at first losing my hair as it's every womans worse nightmare. I sincerely hope she does'nt lose any more🙏 Strike whilst the irons hot to save what she's left...Good luck to her and god willing she's okay. She will get there bless her...Take Care x ps i know a lady who was devastated re above and following speaking toa nephologist they prescribed her with slow release prograf ( immunesupressant) which worked for her. Maybe also worth a try...
I have recently started losing hair also. I am 5 months post transplant and only 66 years old. There's been a lot of back and forth raising and lowering of the Tacrolimus . After reading your question and the replies...I think I will give taking Biotin a try.
