sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but my Auntie needs a transplant and i'd like to be a donor if possible. I know as soon as i mention it she will say no so i want to find out if i can be a donor first before i deal with all of that.I can't see the point in having a battle only to find out i'm not suitable. Can anyone suggest where i go from here.

Hi, Both my sisters wanted to donate a kidney to me, I said if they did thats up to them I couldnt ask anyone to do that for me. I gave both their details to the transplant co ordinator at guys, and told them if they were contacted and went for tests that was up to them, in the end my eldest sister gave me a kidney 11years ago, and we are in fact a 6/6 identical match, how perfect is that, my other sister was a 2/6 match, but they would of used that kidney if the other was not so good, so go for it, its such a lovely thing to do for a relative, and I will never be able to thank my big sister for what she has done for me. Every year on our anniversay of the day the transplant took place, I take her for a treat ie a pamper day, well worth every penny I feel, good luck with wotever you decide... xx

Hi, you need to talk to the Transplant Co-ordinator at your local/nearest transplant centre and talk to them. They will let you know what needs to be done to check compatibility.

I had a kidney from my sister 10 years ago but like your Aunt was worried about my Sister,s health if she donated. You will be glad to know she is just fine and they do a thorough check on the health of the sonar prior to accepting them and then yearly checks thereafter so you will be well looked after. As said above get in touch with the Transplant co-ordinator at the hospital and she will go through the whole procedure with you and you can then explain why you would prefer your Aunt not to know unless you are a match. This is a lovely thing to do and good luck!
