Fistula reversal

manchestervintage profile image

Hi

I had my second transplant in 2008, thankfully all is well and I am enjoying probably the best health of my life at 52.

I had my fistula sine 1987, in that time I've had two serious bleeds.

My doctor at the time mid 90s would not remove it in case I needed it again calling it my lifeline.

I'm always worried about another bleed, do you thing its advisable to try and have it reversed ?

The only other thing I can think of is buying an emergency clotting pack, this is constantly on my mind.

Best wishes all

Martin

G'day Martin.

I had a living donor transplant on 29 April this year and all is going well.

My nephrologist is keen to tie off my fistula at 12 months post transplant, all being well of course. He tells me of studies now showing that a fistula affects the heart, and the left ventricle in particular.

Along with your bleeding incidents, it may be worth doing however of course don't just listen to me, consult your doctors.

Good luck with it mate.

Cheers,

Neil.

Hi Neil

Thank you for the reply, I forgot to add I have that exact problem with my heart.

My kidney failure was diagnosed as asthma from age 14-19 when I was rushed into coronary care with suspected heart attack.

It was fluid built up around my heart, controlled now with bp tablets but lasting condition.

I'll certainly see my doctor soon, good luck and health to you.

Martin
