High BP, headache and nausea - can you help?

Hi I'm new here. My husband had transplant in 2008. Last two years he's had this vicious cycle and his creatnine is increasing. Bloop pressure spikes, he gets headache and throws up several times. This can last for two days. He gets better. Then it happens all over again. I feel his health is deteriorating and at times I feel helpless. This has been the last few years. Anyone else experience this? What has worked? Please help if you can. Thank you.

I presume your husband is being followed by a nephrology team. A transplanted kidney from a deceased donor usually has a life expectancy of about 10 years, while one from a living donor usually survives about 15 years, so the symptoms you report may be those of the normal decline of renal grafts. Do you know the creatinine values?

Yes creatnine is 3.3 so it is clear that the transplanted kidney is not doing so well. I wonder if there is anyone out there who had a similar situation with creatnine level and the kidney function improved?

Normally people can endure a much higher creatinine level before they become as symptomatic as your husband is. If the blood pressure is reduced with anti-hypertensive drugs this may help with the headaches and the nausea they can produce, and this will also spare the kidney from the damage done by high blood pressure.

Hopefully he has adjusted his diet. Before my transplant I stopped eating meat and dairy. Hopefully the transplant team or nephrology team is looking into other issues like perhaps gall bladder? BP medications can be adjusted. Get a second opinion! Wishing the best outcome for your husband. Stay hydrated!

I had this too. It happened when my function got to about 25%, right through to my transplant. Its very important that the consultant is aware of this. Reflexology weekly really helped me manage it better though

The rising creatinine level would be my concern. I do not know much about long term transplants as I am only 15 months out. His nephrologist should be all over those symptoms . I wish your husband the best.
