Hi all, can anyone tell me who's had a kidney transplant ever experienced ongoing diarrhoea every morning 7 weeks on now for me following having a stomach bug. I was in hospital due to same and blood cultures, etc was all checked out and came back negative. My specialist is putting it down to my Cell Cept which has got a side affect of above and said it will settle down, however I've never in 21/2 years ever experienced anything like it and it's becoming very frustrating as my weight is also down due to same and struggling to regain due to the ongoing problem...I would be appreciated for any comments on above.. Many Thanks..😊
Curious : Hi all, can anyone tell me... - Kidney Transplant...

Sounds to me like your tablets need adjusting by your renal consultant.....
I had just the same and my consultant rightly pointed out that tablets were a balance of preventing kidney failure and quality of life.
Having constant diarrhoea is really wearing...... I'm sure there must be some tablet changes the hospital can make to help you.....reducing microfenelin worked for me....im now on 250 twice a day....
Make sure you make it clear at your next visit how this problem is affecting you..
I'm sure they will help....
Best of luck.....
Also see if you can see the nutritionist....they may be able to give you supplements to help you gain weight and become stronger....
Believe it or not I went to a dietician and her answer to above was eat high calories with sugar which again is a no no as cell cept can cause diabetes, however never bothered with that, but not their body. Really a viscous circle for us. I'm at my renal specialist on Thursday so will mention it came..Thanks again..
Yes, I did too and without the bug. It was so bad I called my visiting nurse at night and told them I was miserable and raw and in pain from it. She contacted my doc the next morning and he cut down the amount of Ranitidine and that seemed to stop the raging. Stools are still soft, but at least Im not living in the pot
I saw my specialist last week and she only changed me from omazeprol stomach capsules to Ranitidine am and pm, however never changed anything else, however back to clinic on Thursday so here's hoping I'll get some positive outcome. I do have good specialist, however it'll get sorted I'm sure..Thanks for your support Dotti55
Hi iv had transplant and never had that problem..f you have had transplant it will take a while for your system to get used to the powerfull drugs..avoid milk products for a week or two this should help.and have some boiled rice for a day or two this should help a lot..take care ..chris
Its your cellcept, I had the same problem and when my medicine was changed the problem stopped immediately.
They've now changed my cell cept to Myfortic a month ago and no change, had colonoscopy, other tests, etc all clear and I'm still experiencing same problem on a daily basis and one stone in weight loss, really awful ..Referred now to a gastroenterologist for consultation..Thanks for your reply corvem. Take Care
Can anyone on here who's had prolonging diarrhoea for over 6 weeks how long it takes for diarrhoea to dry up after been temporarily taken off Cell Cept as Renal specialists think this the main denominator and should it not clear up I've to have a Colonoscopy to see if anything else underlying although whilst in hospital when I initially took aforementioned all blood tests, etc came back negative.. Many Thanks in advance.
