Tinnitus made worse by a massage?!

Hi folks,

Starting to cope better with my T and general anxiety. Decided to treat myself as part of my self focus and go for a massage. Since having it yesterday I've suddenly. found my tinnitus has got worse. It's louder than it has been for many weeks.

Of course this is T so this could just be my mind playing tricks and me spiralling into an anxiety loop. But I thought I'd ask if anyone else has experienced something like this?

I enjoyed the massage a lot, so it'd be a shame to have to stop going for them.

Deffo talk your doctor and your audiologist, because that's why they are there after all. Seems to me any increase in your T is unlikely to be specifically related to a massage, unless some damage was done to your neck area?

Thank you.

The thing is I already have existing pain in my neck and upper back, it's one of the reasons I go for a massage. I do intend on getting it investigated by a doctor/physio soon.

Hi, like you I decided to have some relaxation as I am very prone to feeling anxious so I opted for an Indian head massage. The first one did nothing for me at all, but I’ve had three more since and I think it’s helping me relax and I have been talking to the masseuse about T and this is helping me too. Perhaps try it one more time?

I certainly will as I enjoy it! I'll just advise the masseuse to go easy on my neck.

I also resorted to massage, shoulders neck and head, because the t was causing bad sleep, stressing me out and I started waking with bad headaches. Awaiting ENT appointment and MRI scan so resorting to self help in the meantime. The morning massage session, I have to say, gave me a headache-free day and I felt calmer with the t. If I could afford it, I'd have 2 or 3 sessions a week. Poor alignment of neck muscles and vertebrae can lead to tinnitus though according to lots of tinnitus advice pages on line, and chiropractic treatment is flagged as aggravating it sometimes. Maybe you have a type of postural tinnitus (there are so many kinds of t aren't there) and you need some physio?

What caused my T is an enduring mystery (join the club I know) but indeed the possibility it's linked to poor posture, upper back and neck pain really feels possible. Indeed a physio referral is something I'm looking to get.

Hope very much that gives positive outcomes!

hi I’ve had pulsitile tinnitus for 3 years also GAD for a long time I had accupunture and massage a few days ago. My tinnitus level reduced right down to a full hum and I felt very relaxed for the whole day. Unfortunately day after came right back but it definitely does help I’m going to Cathy on
