MD noise after loud music/ thearte

Hi when I an invited out in the evening to a music or cinema event, where there is loud noise, I struggle when I get in bed, my left ear is so sensitive and makes the loudest noise.I usually then feel off colour for about a week, with headaches and pain in my left ear. I worry about going to events in the evening as my ear will suffer from the noise later. Has anyone got any advice. Thankyou

Hi I'm only 4 weeks into living with tinitus so cannot offer advice but I am worried that this is going to be a dilemma for me going forward I have a meal out with work next month and visiting my sister which involved going on loud tube trains

I'm going to wear my experience loop earplugs for both occasions just incase as I have noticed prolonged sound exposure from traffic aggravates the tinitus and causes pain and headache so now I will go out with plugs in for now

i second tbat Loop earplugs were hugely useful for me at rhe early stages of my tinnitus. i too had to navigate the noisy tube lines jn London and would also wear them out and about if there was a hint of uncomfortably loud noise exposure.i still have then today, over 2 years on and keep them on the ready just in case.

Hi Darren

Thanks yeah, it's the hardest thing to know when a loud noise is going to happen. Noise everywhere. I had 2 very loud knocks at the door yesterday and not even using my grill as scared to set the fire alarm off.

When I went out the other day I walked through the park to avoid traffic noise and there happened to me a band setting-up there music and the amp or speaker made a loud feedback noise very loud luckily I did have my earplugs on but so hard to avoid. First time ever I have seen any bands in the park lol

I really hope this is not permanent as it is going to be hard work to live like this!

5 weeks on Saturday since I was exposed to the noise that triggered this.

I'm not into festivals and concerts so luckily I don't need to worry about missing out on these things

Do you still get any pains after 2 years? Or where earplugs on the tube still ?

Hi there - 3 choices really

1. Custom moulded earplugs from ACS if you live in uk see link

acscustom.com/uk/?gclid=Cj0...

2. Peltor x5a ear defenders see link

amazon.co.uk/Peltor-Over-He...

3. Stop putting yourself through this and risking your temporary condition becoming permanent

Hello Bournville

Protecting ears against exposure to sound is a good idea - as you state.

I would think that the Peltor ear defenders you shared would be more appropriate for a work environment, rather than going to a theatre show or seeing a movie at the cinema, though.

The ACS custom earplugs would be a good call if someone regularly goes to concerts and wants a bespoke product which accurately matches the shape of their ear canal - it might well pay for itself over time in peace of mind alone.

I would have to agree with what Happyrosie has suggested, AHPH1. A good pair of filtering earplugs might allow you to enjoy a live theatre performance by preventing some higher decibel sounds from entering the ears.

Laura below has mentioned earplugs by Loop - you could also consider the tried-and-true Alpine Party Plugs, which are designed to help people attending live music and performance to enjoy a show but not feel as though their ears are being impacted by unwanted levels of loudness: alpinehearingprotection.co....

I am just about to purchase some ear plugs which have had to be custom made because one ear is apparently different to the other one. I am having the music filters and because they fit well will hopefully give me the confidence to try and get out and about again.

Hi I am going to try the alpine party ones first and then going to spec savers audio for a chat

I use "QUIES" wax ear plugs .( they block all noise ) Then I can tweak them a bit depending on how much noise I want to let in .

Hi, i had similar to this when i had hyperacusis, sound sensitivity. Most noises were unbearable but some specific noises and loud noises would cause a T spike that would last around a week, make me feel completely exhausted and unable to do much.i found over time tbough the recovery time for spikes got smaller, from days to hours.

theres no specific advice here, just highlighting it may get easier over time for the spikes you may be feeling.

I would like to find some over ear protection as my kids have ear wax in their ear I don't want to get them sringed yet whilst it's so soon after noise exposure and I may offer some protection for now. However all the over ear ones look bulky and for industrial work use. Any headphones 🎧 or ear muff over ear protection that doesn't look to extremeIt's just for gyms and train and heavy traffic for now

This website compares models of noise cancelling headphones. If you untick the ‘recent’ filter (and other filters) it will show you those best at cancelling out noise by frequency range, i.e. low end bass vs high end treble: rtings.com/headphones/tools...
