Has anyone using Omeprazole noticed spikes when taking this medication. I have just realised when I take a tablet my T spikes. Going to find an alternative.

Thoughts please , this is goggle search response :

Can omeprazole cause tinnitus?Omeprazole is a type of PPI, and some sources suggest that PPIs can increaseTrusted Source the risk of tinnitus.

no. I used to take this medicine and had no side affects at all. I don’t take it anymore as I heard it shouldn’t be taken for too long. I think this drug is one of the harmless ones. I personally don’t take anything for my T. Don’t take medicine if you can manage without.

Thank you Rosie, I only take them when really necessary . I like you do not take any medication unless it is needed. I have ME so do not put anything into my body that may trigger bigger probs. Thank you

Parrcj, I would say that the crucial words in your search result are 'some sources' and 'can'. Neither of those is definitive.

Is the overall benefit of the medication for the condition it is being prescribed to treat higher than the potential of a side effect you may or not experience?

I'm going to trust a resource like the NHS/NICE's British National Formulary far more than I would a basic Google search - bnf.nice.org.uk/drugs/omepr... - if I'm being honest.

Can I ask have you heard of the flu jab or covid jab causing a spike in T? Mines so loud as it is afraid to get this.

and there are other PPI drugs than Omeprazole. Maybe a chat with your dispensing pharmacist?

Hi Parrcj,

Just adding to the consensus of the responses, I took Omeprazole for years (I guess 7 or 8), before switching to Lanzoprazole and latterly to Famotidine (this last being an H2 blocker rather than a PPI). There are good and well documented reasons for anyone who can avoid all of these if they possibly can but, in my experience at least, none of them affected my bothersome T in any way.

Best wishes.
