Hi, same as you in terms of noises and same as you with ENT, Neurology all sitting there quietly shaking their heads saying there's nothing wrong with you. Bloody frustrating. The last time a consultant said that to me I shouted at him; "Nothing wrong with me except I have severe/ catastrophic tinnitus driving me insane."
Have you been referrred back to Audiology? - I trust you've had a hearing test? What were the results? Turns out my accident (fall, head-injury, back of neck, C5 C6 vertabrae) knocked out as much as 40dB of hearing across a very narrow frequency range which my brain has been replacing with the T.
I now have hearing aids which boost those missing frequencies only and the T is more manageable. Thank God.
Sorry, don't know if any help, just kicking ideas around.
It means you don't have a tumour or anything they can see, that might cause T . That's the case for most of us . Nothing medically wrong. Stress make it worse, so please try to find some calming methods . Try them all , there should be at least one method that helps . Music, radio, tv , you tube sounds for T. Try not to have silence especially at night. , its always seems louder then. just try not to have the volume too loud.
Fortunately (probably) most people don't have any underlying cause such as tumours or vascular loops for their tinnitus. I have it continuously and have for years. Have had pulsatile, whooshing, straight line, high frequency, low frequency sometimes all at the same time! I had a cochlear implant last year and it seems to have at least stopped the pulsatile tinnitus in my left ear which was a good side benefit. Mine would always be there but would not always be the same. I'm not sure I can be of help - I never found a solution. It was always luck. Or so it appeared. When people tell me that nothing is wrong with me I have said to them, "you mean nothing is wrong that appears to cause my tinnitus. Because clearly something is wrong, you and science just haven't found it yet." One specialist looked very taken aback when I said that! He was also the one who told me (wrongly) my hearing loss was permanent and irreversible and nothing could be done and then walked out. Needless to say I didn't go back to him.
Getting a physical all clear from ENT can be bittersweet cant it! I remember in my own case I was almost disappointed they didn't find anything because then at least i would have a cause.
I went on to learn more about the condition and I now realise that Tinnitus is very common and most people are seemingly not bothered by it or don't have a reaction to it like some of us do.
This being the case and after a period of coming to terms and accepting that it wasn't going to go away and there was no magic pill I had a period of clarity and I put my own Tinnitus reaction down solely to Anxiety so set about treating it like an anxiety disorder.
This was a massive step in the right direction for me because the better I got at managing my anxiety the better my reaction to Tinnitus and as of today I am at peace with it. My new silence as I call it.
This worked for me and I hope it gives you some comfort that it can and will get better in time.
We know that a lot of people have T. What we, here, also know is that our perception of it is subjective. T can be like any other medical complaint; Mild, Moderate, Severe and Catastrophic. I think most people if questioned would admit that their T is Mild, sometimes Moderate.
Early in my T diagnosis I was told my T is considered to be Severe, borderline Catastrophic. Most of the people posting here are in that bracket too.
If everybody who had T had that level of it the World would cease to function - so, ipso facto, most people just have very Mild T.
I woke up with it the next morning after a very nasty accident. I'd never had T before and it changed my life overnight. Nothing has ever been the same since it happened. My old life, as I knew and lived it, has ended. My whole existense these days is about further developing skills and techniques to bear with an unbearable condition.
