Bi Polar Experience

Hi everyone. I thought I should share my experience with you as it somewhat backs up a lot of the advice in replies on this site.I've had progressive tinnitus for 5 years which I thought had plateaued last year. The sounds are loud constant rumbling and hissing.

I'm diagnosed as being 'mildly' bi-polar. In December & January I went to visit my son, without my wife, in Melbourne, Australia. To cut a very long story short I went on a 'high' for 6 months and was hardly bothered by my tinnitus. Unfortunately when I came down from this high, which is inevitable, and as a result of my actions during that phase, my tinnitus is louder than ever and my life is in tatters. I think this proves one thing especially and that is STRESS is one of the main contributors to tinnitus. I'm trying to deal with it but it's even harder now that I've had that lovely 6 month period where it wasn't bothering me.

I hope that this might help anyone out there. I'd be really interested to know if there are any other bi-polar sufferers on this site who have had a similar experience.

I'm not bi polar but agree with you about stress. As far as I'm concerned it is the one and only reason I have hissing tinnitus. With stress tinnitus, it seems to be that as a symptom it was never completed on time before humanity 'went live'. It was left in the assembly stage and don't we all know it.

Stress now gone, but not yet the tinnitus. But without the stress I believe my tinnitus is on the improve, and why shouldn't it be. That's what I tell myself and get some comfort from that.

Once again, I suggest giving Ginkgo a trial. But only the way I do it. No other.

Hi - I’m not Bi-Polar but totally agree with you about stress. I think I probably have OCD which doesn’t help. It is very difficult to change the way you are and I often think to myself that if if I was one of the “laid back” people who let everything go over their head my tinnitus wouldn’t bother me as much. Thank goodness the sun is at last shining and I can find solace tending my garden!!
