I’m currently experiencing a difficult time owing to a family bereavement . My tinnitus has been getting worse over last few days and today my hearing is almost completely gone in my right ear . I have had an mri with clear results . Is there anything I can do to try to help calm it down ? I’m assuming it’s related to the increase in anxiety but I’m wondering if anyone can suggest something to help calm it down .

there is plenty you can do to calm your tinnitus. Remember there’s no actual “cure” just like there’s no cure for arthritis or multiple sclerosis, but it’s not all doom and gloom. Just don’t believe any ads for “cures”.
The eventual aim is to take your attention off the tinnitus until the brain get bored looking for the sound. It’s how to do this that’s the hard bit! Please start of by looking at the website of Tinnitus UK - not seeking cures but many ways to help yourself. The simplest thing to start with in my view is breathing exercises (the NHS has some useful stuff about this on its website).
Hi I know exactly how you are feeling as I am going through the same and it is awful. I am trying relaxation exercises and have had a few sessions of acupuncture but just hoping it will get more manageable as time goes on.
Hi I’ve had a hearing check today and discovered I have a slight further deterioration in the health and hearing level on my worst side . Going to have a full check and test of hearing aids to see if that may help . In the meantime I will look at breathing exercises . Hope you improve this really is difficult to have and try to mask it .
Hi first of all am sorry to hear about your bereavement, your T is likely ramping up because of the stress you are under, yes belly breathing can really help your nervous system calm but it takes time, please have a look at Julian Cowan Hill on YT he also has a website, he had T for 20 years and is now recovered, there are many positive things we can do to reduce T, i understand totally how challenging it is, i am sure mine is stress and muscle tension related, it is hard to keep positive but T is a stress response so your body is telling you that something needs addressing, i found that body based practices can help, i.e. acupuncture even though the T website says otherwise, we are all different and can respond to different treatments, it can be simply a matter of relaxing, all the very best to you.
Thankyou that’s reassuring and I absolutely agree my body is responding to something ! I will definitely look at more of Julian CH as I know I can do something to try to help calm my response to the stress .
I know i refer to him a lot but watching his videos about what T is has been incredibly helpful, just watching them can sometimes help calm us down, you are going through one of the highest causes of stress so its not surprising your T has gone up, if it doesnt sound too flippant of me but try and get a massage or something to help calm your poor body for a short time, it will help you relax a bit - even a little head, neck massage?
That definitely sounds like a plan -the best one yet !
Please keep us posted, i have a massage session booked soon 🙌🏻 it will lower your stress hormone ❤️
I will . Just purchased Julian CH book and will watch more on YT 🙂
Hi Jenny first of all so sore to hear about your loss. Unfortunately I can’t offer you any advice as I’m struggling with the same issues after loosing my mum 2 years ago. Wishing you all the very best ❤️
Download the OTO app and use the cicada background noise, it’s the only sound that triggers the right balance of masking my tinnitus. (I’ve read several others who agree with the cicada sound they use is one of a kind and it works)
I actually paid for a year subscription and I think it would have helped if I could have stuck with it, but I was not patient enough and no motivation to stick to the well thought out course.
If anyone who reads this knows how to download the cicadas from OTO please advise., even though it’s free to listen on my phone I would like to have it offline to put on my small mp3 player.
