So a year ago I had a virus that bought on tinnitus it seemed to go after a couple of months, though I think it was still there at some very low level and forgot about it
I also have vertigo randomly for a few seconds if I roll over in bed or sit up fast and if I bend over and look under a desk say, it disperses reasonably quickly(but only occurs randomly)
Now last Friday I woke up and had tinnitus tone constantly, and my right ear only feels full or something like, with a slight ache and pinching sometimes.
My hearing seems fine no loss or difficulty in hearing things
In the mornings if I massage the outer part and back of ear it sounds sticky and wet wax
I rang my doctors who said to go to pharmacist first who said that it is a build up of wax and gave me drops for 5 days
So I’m waiting to see how that helps hopefully, I’m going through redundancy and various stressful things currently and with this my blood pressure is raised
I’m thinking this could all be related to my tinnitus and hope it goes away and trying to not focus on it.

Virus and stress … no wonder it’s impacting tinnitus symptoms however the vertigo needs attention from an ENT. If the drops don’t work pursue that line. The crystals in your ears may be the issue and an ENT + physiotherapist with knowledge on that can help. Failing that welcome to the world of living with tinnitus. CBT therapy is helpful and white noise therapy… some people recommend sound therapy too! It gets more tolerable over time as you learn to live with it.
PS: wouldn’t hurt to take a B12 supplement 1000mcg daily
An update, I went back to my local pharmacist and he actually looked in my ear instead of going from the symptoms
My right ear he said had compacted wax that he could not see past and my left ear had a lot of wax but not as bad as my right ear
He’s changed the ear drops and given me also Ear Calm in case something is happening behind the right ear
I am going back next Wednesday for him to look again to see if things have moved and if not has given me a number to call to arrange it to be sucked out
So he said he’s certain the wax is causing the tinnitus and feelings I’m getting
Pleased I went for another pharmacy and an actual look in my ear. Will update
So went back Tuesday he looked in my ears said the left looked much better and the right was improving and to carry on with the drops and to ring the dr if it didn’t improve after using the little rubber bulb thing to rinse the ears today Thursday
I was toying with going to a. Registered ear microsuction clinic local to me to see if that would help, but been reading it could make it worse if it is tinnitus and not the wax in my ears
This all seems very positive, Downup24. Wax blockages are very often implicated in the arrival of tinnitus, so it makes sense that treating this problem may be helpful in minimising the impact which tinnitus is having for you.
One thing I would say - and I think RNiD would back me up on this - is that a website hearing tests is not a replacement for a proper audiology exam. This is purely a 'speech in noise' test, which is one aspect of an overall test of someone's hearing.
I popped to Dr she said that the wax has cleared and to stop using the drops
Though both ears look to have outer infection and gave me Otomize ear spray for 7 days
but she also said that my ear drums looked dull and that a build up of fluid was there which she described like to glue ear and was surprised as it’s not usually presented in older people and asked if I’ve had issues when younger, which I’ve not
She said that would be the reason for the tinnitus and if that’s not resolved in 7 days to go back and then they’d give me antibiotics for that, but to start using beconase and antihistamine as well as the sprays she’s given me
Sure I can feel fluid moving about like when you get water in your ear in the shower 🤔
