Just starting my journey with this condition and looking for guidance and advice.
Doctor Google sends me to sites of wealthy looking American doctors who talk for about 30 minutes about a cure for tinnitus before asking for my hard earned cash. Do these “remedies” make any difference, has anybody ever used them and with what results.?
right now I’ll try anything, 4 hours sleep in the last 48 hours, waiting for a doctors appointment next week. What other home self help options are there.

There isn't a cure for tinnitus yet, so any of the too-good-to-be-true stories are just that.
That doesn't mean that people are stuck with tinnitus or have to lead a sad existence, tormented by sounds in their head.
There are lots of things that you can try out to help you manage your tinnitus and many people go on to lead normal lives despite tinnitus being present - you'll find a good starter pack of advice on our website under the 'What Can I Do?' link:
Thank you. It’s the lack of sleep that’s impacting me the most at the moment.
Doctors appointment pending.
The anxiety is driving mini panic attacks which I’ve never suffered from before. On top of that I’ve just completed a course of B12 injections so I’m either Hyper, anxious or worried about not being able to sleep. Walking laps of the house at 2:00am is not something would normally do……
Hi, I have been suffering for about two months and like you I eagerly sought advice from the internet. I recognise the type of sites you have seen and they follow a similar pattern to other ‘cure all’ remedy sites, including weight loss and others. Often American, they say the same things, promising miracle results. Never found one that delivers so very sceptical. When it starts “give me three minutes…,” and you are still listening 20 minutes later you have been the victim of a hard, repetitive sell. From my experience, don’t waste your money. Listen to other sufferers.
Pat has already replied to you - and he’s the expert! - but I reinforce what he’s saying.
Do not believe anyone except your own medical team (and many doctors are dismissive so take care) or Tinnitus UK or what you hear from us posters.
Have a go at the website that Pat proposes and come back to us with any further comments you might have.
All the best!
Hi - so sorry to hear you have T - mine began in September, i recommend Julian Cowan Hill on You Tube, he also has an app 'Quieten' (UK) he has had T and found many ways to cope and now doing well, he will help through these dark days, and explain what T actually is which you will generally not get from a Dr, lots of practical things you can do at home for free!!!! take one day at a time, i also recommend a free app called Smiling Mind short breathing exercises you can do to help the nervous system calm down, i am still struggling and its early days but you will get through this, all the best.
Hello Toastie62 sleep i think is the biggest negative factor when you have tinnitus, in my view you need sleeping tablets, not for long because they can be very addictive, but they will give you a good nights sleep which will make you cope better, like Pat said there is no cure for tinnitus, what will happen is you will learn to live with it, and for most people it does improve a lot, but you need to get some good sleep.
HI Toastie62 This forum is one of the best helps you can get as well as apps and equipment to help mask the Big T. My hearing aids have bluetooth and I'm listening to the radio now through them which diverts my attention but ordinary bluetooth headphones will do the same. I can also stream boost the TV and other people's voices when the Big T is really bad.
There are under the pillow players to help with sleep by playing soothing sounds. White noise apps can help for the day too.
Some people benefit from medication to aid sleep and some people don't and it makes it worse- so take care with this approach.
CBT has helped me change my attitude towards it and gain some sort of control over the last year.
hi. Look on the Tinnitus UK website for bona fide information.
At night I use an app called Relief. This is stick sounds that you can mix up to suit your needs to help mask, if only slightly, your T. Lots of T information on there too.
Over the years I have learned to accept and live with it. The more you feel anxious the worse T can be, plus the anxiety just tunes you into the sounds and makes them seem worse, louder.
During the day some people have a radio on if they can as they are listening to that not their T, I don’t bother, I can cope with the sounds being permanently there in the day - concentrating on work, or hobby if you don’t work helps.
Sorry to hear your situation. Sounds similiar to me when my tinnitus started. As has been stated by several people here, there is no cure for tinnitus. Most of the "cures' found on Doctor Google are just "doctors" trying to sell you their "miracle" cure. I did the same thing, even purchased one to help. It did not. There are legitimate resources available to help you with tinnitus. I also suffered with insomnia brought on by the anxiety and feeling of helplessness with tinnitus. After 3 weeks of this, my GP diagnosed me with anxiety and mild depression. He prescribed a very mild anti-depressant that did help with the sleep, which in turn helped with the anxiety. I also tried Cognitive Behavior Therapy. I found a wonderful therapist who has helped me tremendously in dealing with the emotional effects of tinnitus. I also use some sound therapy that is helpful, especially when I have spikes. There is a youtube channel called Dalesnale. He is a sound engineer that has tinnitus and has developed sounds in different frequencies that can help mask the sound of tinnitus. It is a free channel and might be worth a try. Everyone's situation is different. These are just some things that I have found helpful. There is help out there. Try not to despair and I wish you the best.
