Recovering from Tinnitus Spike

Dear Memembers

Ive been suffering with Tinnitus after getting Eustachian Tube Dysfunction last October (22) and got first symptoms in November of that year. However my ETD has got much better still might need Ballon dilation. It was infected in my right ear!

However seen Audiologists and ENT numerous times since last November and given all clear with my hearing. So my Tinnitus was very mild in general had a few bad spikes during that time with family arguments and stress.

However a few weeks back I was asked my my mother to cut back hedge and plants. The small hedge cutter rain out of juice and was given a electric hedge trimmer (Ryobi) and cut back plants and hedge. It was only about 15-20 minutes and stop and starting throughout the session to clear the cuttings. As my earing and Tinnitus was very good and barely noticebale, didn't think of wearing Hearing protection!

However once I finished the cutting I felt my head buzzing on left side like when I first suffered Tinnitus spike in November 2022!! It was horrible and made me feel so angry and depressed that I didn't think I could cause a bad Spike in my Tinnitus. It calmed down hours later.

However its been over 2 Weeks and my head is still buzzing and Tinnitus spikes and then drops down. I fine get comfort in the work of Julian Cowan Hill and Dr Ben Thompson in calming myself down and not allowing myself to get too anxious and fearful.

Ive seen Audiologist and ENT in the last week and given all clear about my hearing.

However my hearing feels more senstive on the right ear and buzzing/Tinnitus spikes then vanishes. What can you recommend to recover and is it normal to Spike Tinnitus through (loud noise/ equipment) and what have been you own experiences with these kind of Spikes?

I was told by ENT that my hearing is more sensitive after ETD and might be permeant and should look at buying Hearing protection to prevent future Spikes. What kind of protection would you recommend so I don't have to experience this kind of Spike in the future?

Many Thanks Everyone

hello I would recommend ACS filtered plugs that don’t totally block out sound

I have 15, 10, and 27 decibels…..

I think Ben Thomson has done a u tube film about it…. Plugs…. They help immensely whilst your desensitising….

start with the ACS plugs recomended by Eleanor - the minus 27db filters and work your way down over time to the - 10 filters. The filters are interchangeable
