Hi guys, I have had T now for a few weeks , I still haven’t been able to see the ENT .. I just want to ask does the T change sounds ? For two days now sometimes I hear the T like a screeching sound and this past two days sometimes it’s like it pulsates or thumps in my right ear.. and it gives me anxiety I have my lower right eye lid twitch almost every time…. But I also notice that whenever I get distracted with something else like watching a movie or I go outside on a walk or listening to music I don’t get to notice the T till I’m in a silent environment so I really don’t know how severe the T is .. I also find it hard to sleep at night , I recently started trying chamomile tea to help induce sleep. Are all these symptoms Normal? Or am I just overreacting to it . I used to enjoy being in silence now I’m scared to always be alone at home without a background music or sound
I need advice on what to do : Hi guys, I have... - Tinnitus UK
I need advice on what to do

You have mild tinnitus if you don't notice it at times. At some stage you will probably consider wireless earphones to drown out what you have completely when you can do so. I don't have the pulsating effect so it's as well you are going to ENT.
Took me 3 to 4 months to come to terms with tinnitus. But we all do. It's called habituation. You might also find you get periods of silence back. I've done that with Ginkgo, but it's not straightforward and there are plenty who have no faith in Ginkgo. For me the stuff is part of my fightback.
as has been said - what you are experiencing is very normal. I’ve seen many posts on here describing different sounds, and changes in sounds.
sounds like you have pretty mild T . For some people the sound changes, for others (like mine) its a constant high pitch. Distraction works well for lots of people . One of the tricks is NOT to have silence and yes we all miss that. I use a earphone with pocket radio on a talk program. Sometimes I can have it on really low and I cant hear what they are saying . I'm too engrossed in what I am doing ,so it doesn't bother me .
PS I'm with Ray200 on the Gingko. Takes a while so don't give up on it too soon.
I have had pulsatile tinnitus for 3 plus years. You do get used to it but distractions obviously help. Pillow speakers for night time and I use Shokz headphones These play music from your phone through your cheekbones This helps me a lot because you can hear everything else that is going on instead of regular headphones over your ears which blot everything else out. Best wishes. you will get used to it.
Hi! I’ve finally habituated to tinnitus after almost 17 years. Although I can hear it in silence I am not scared any more.
All your symptoms are normal
. Partially my sleep is induced in the latter part of the night with a half of a sleeping pill, with doctor’s permission.
Some words of advice:
- try to find the cause of the SPIKES of tinnitus, since the original cause hasn’t been found yet;
- spikes may be caused by a variety of causes. In my case, poor brain blood circulation, rarely by high b p, or even low bp( when it’s very hot outside), fat plaques(ateroms) on carotides ( see Doppler) and even weather changes( cervical spondilosis). So I’ve been given treatment. For T and vertigo I take Betahistine and Ginko Biliba.,
Good health!
Hello mate,
Ok, a bit about me. In October 22 I went to bed with normal hearing. That morning I woke up with severe hearing loss, tinnitus and pulsatile tinnitus. I was diagnosed with sudden sensorineural hearing loss due to a virus damaging my internal auditory nerve.
The anxiety you are challenged with is tinnitus distress. Because you are anxious and focused on it in the silence, your brain thinks it is a threat so it will make it seem louder because your brain is protecting you from the threat.
My advice to you is keep busy. Focus on things that you enjoy ie movies, walking etc. my second bit of advice is to not avoid silence. I would suggest meditation in silence, accept the tinnitus for what it is, a benign noise that is harmless. Learn to associate the tinnitus sound with relaxation. Then try using ear plugs, this will allow you to only hear your T, keep relaxing and meditating in the sound.
It will take a while, but eventually you will associate your T with relaxation, your brain will no longer see it as a threat, and I promise you, you will be able to sit in silence again and your sleep will return to normal.
Also, stay away from Dr Google and tinnitus forums!
Acceptance and relaxation is your goal
