Omg my works fire alarm just went off n I'm in panic mode, I had my right ear plug in and ran into a room to get the other ear plug in but now I'm left shaking worried it will make T worse again now! I struggle with the loudness as is 😔

Help me calm down please...

Deep breath Yam. Very short exposure to a loud noise - like a fire alarm - won't damage your hearing even if it temporarily pushes up your T . It sounds as if you acted quickly so there shouldn't be a problem. That sort of thing is enough to make anyone with T panic. Hope you feel better soon.

I’m sure you’ll be ok, a fire alarm for a short period won’t damage your hearing, but I can understand your worry.

Very loud noise can be scary when you have T iv got a virus at the moment which always sends my T higher i also went to see my son who plays in a band 4 days a go and my thoughts are has that made my T louder as well, but it wasn't to loud, two things that effect my T are hair dryers and vacuum cleaners so i am always conscious when around different loud noises so i try to avoid them , i know any alarm going off can be ear piercing , i fully understand your fear but as doglover1973 said you acted quickly so no worry's, take care.

Hi Yam42, I would say most people with tinnitus have a base line and sometimes when there is a spike due to sound exposure or illness etc the Tinnitus will increase but almost always come back to your base line over time. This used to take days for me to come back but as time has progressed any spikes I have are usually back to baseline within a day.

Having the confidence of knowing your T will always return the your baseline is a big comfort when faced with situations such as a loud noise, it turns it into just an inconvenience and removes any fear that this would be the new norm!

And.. if it didnt affect your tinnitus, even better :)
