Are there any supplements that work?

I have a constant hissing in my ears. I see so may so called cures on the net (supplements, herbs, tablets etc). I've just joined this forum and hoping to get a consensus on what is the best out there and worth a try. Or, are they all just scams capitalising on peoples misery - including fear mongering with warnings of dementia if not treated.

as you say - scams. If there were proven cures then we would be talking about it. There are simply ways to help, some of which work for some people and some don’t.

The website of Tinnitus UK summarises these - have a look.

Hi, Hissing.

The links identified between tinnitus and dementia refer exclusively to untreated hearing loss and remain theoretical at this point in time.

Supplements are not recommended as viable treatments for tinnitus. There's more on this in the treatments section of the Tinnitus UK website.

HiHissing. Sham remedies. Fear mongering . Yes I agree with your observations. My remedy is distraction. Fortunately I work from home, so I have 2 audio sources running all the time , and I do not focus on this hissing in my ears, it just makes it more intrusive. I have had constant in both ears for the last 25 years (I think?) Glad to read about the similarities you have experienced. Keep in there Hissing, yours Hissing of Oxford,

In my experience no supplements work, over the past 20 years I’ve tried most. Magnesium is supposed to be good for ears so I take one pill a day. Ginkgo can be helpful for one sided vascular tinnitus, but it has to be a particular type of ginkgo. For most people it will do nothing. If anything worked we would all know about it.

Hi

Thanks all for your replies and advice, much appreciated. I’ve had this issue for 13 years now and never knew there was a forum anywhere on this subject. Doctor at the time just said there’s no cure and to just live with it. Maybe one day there will be a wonder pill or treatment, in the meantime I’ll just keep checking on here for any news, as I can’t see any other organisation on google that seems to talk about it.

Thanks again and glad to be part of the community

Ady
