Hi Steve. Try not to worry. Very few people who go for an MRI have anything wrong with them. Have you been referred to Audiology? T often gets worse when you lose hearing even if only a little and HAs can make a big difference.

Hi Steve. Try and not worry - tinnitus is very distressing and we’ve all been through what you are experiencing. The more you think about it the worse it gets and it’s a vicious circle. Try and read as much as you can about it, also distraction helps. I have musical ear syndrome so I am pestered by continual repetitive undefined music 24/7. I also have other noises and at the beginning thought I was going mad. I went through every emotion you could think of. Mine started with a bout of Labyrinthitis 2 1/2 years ago which caused deafness in my right ear. I hope your hearing aids will help - everything takes such a long time to get sorted at the moment. I too live on the South coast and can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can enjoy my walks by the sea. They do a power of good!

It could be the stress of everything going on - MRI’s are very noisy and not very pleasant. What upset me was my GP said he had never heard of Musical Ear Syndrome and just seemed to dismiss me by sending the link to the British Tinnitus Org. When he realised how distraught I was he did give me some anti depressants and although they couldn’t cure tinnitus they did help me. I hardly use them now. It is very hard to come to terms with this but you will get there.

Another South Coast resident. I had CT scan and all fine. Hang in there for the hearing aids

I get headaches too. I’ve had 2 MRI scans and everything is ok.

Worry, causes, tension, tension, causes, headaches. It’s a bit of a vicious cycle. Try to distract from it. Play music in the background when I’m in a quiet room.

I’ve just been through the very same thing - asymmetric hearing loss plus worsening tinnitus especially in my ‘dodgy’ ear = red flag for MRI. I had to wait 3 weeks for the results, which were all clear as the consultant expected, but oh my goodness the stress and anxiety of those 3 weeks was awful - headaches + even worse tinnitus. I’m now waiting for a hearing aid fitting and some tinnitus 121 therapy which hopefully will all help.

Hope you get your result soon.

Hi try not to worry. Tinnitus is very common and the mri rarely turns up with anything. The only other common fix for tonnitis is an ear infection or blocked ears. Apart from that it's inside the head and not life threatening just chronic and considered the aging process and N part of hearing loss. I habe a b12 deficiency. There is some connection there but my b12 shots have not made by tinnitus recede.

b12 shots helped me reduce noise level but for only for a couple days.

Don’t stress if you can. I’m only 45 and was sent for an MRI. I think it’s to rule out everything else. All was clear with me. Just have T last few years for no apparent reason. Wait until you get the results and I’m sure all will be fine. Stress is the worst! Makes T louder in my case.
