Without specific disease like tumour, most article agree that one of the main reason is dead hair cell , but may i know if no hearing loss , does that mean this reason is ruled out i assume this reason must result in hearing loss

I think the hairs can be damaged by loud noise without having hearing loss

TinnitusUKPat profile image
TinnitusUKPatPartner in reply tosurviveT

Hi SurviveT, if inner ear hair cells are damaged, this is defined as hearing loss - if those cells are no longer able to pass on external sound vibrations following exposure to trauma. An audiometry test result should indicate this.

At present, regeneration of damaged hair cells isn't viable, although that is something which numerous research projects are trying to change.

Hearing loss being ruled out by an audiologist might need some more context - how in-depth was a hearing test, is someone's hearing loss in the difficult to diagnose mid range/'cookie bite' sub-type (healthyhearing.com/report/5... or other testing variables which sometimes lead to inconclusive results.

But if i dont get hearing loss then....

And way t is a villian , in therory can say have many causes but in reality most of peope has to be with t for good

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply toTinnitusUKPat

I agree with what u said , just very basic test isnt accurate enough well i hope the head of nhs see what u type and dont need t patient to push and push , coz t is stressful enough, while we push, information asymmetry occurs but in a professional manner, being in lower position is so hard , as somehow said nhs is free, yes some saying must be oh not really , you should communicate with the medical professional in a clear and nicer way, they re highly respected, but neglect some side of reality in world

Mathew we are here to help each other and learn about ways to cope with T.

Please get off the litany against the NHS, this forum is not the right place for this.

And i just agree with pay especually his last para, unfortunately i m poor and as someone said dont forget nhs is free , so i just state the fact that they re doing otherwise meaninf rhey dont put high attention at T , and yes when u re saying its not suitable to speak things about nhs, you dont even response to the fact i am saying in a constructive manner, its like Maths is not allowed here while i say 1+1 is 2, seems everyone know the answer and reality , but they cant prove otherwises, then would keep stressing math is not allowed This is disappointing

we all know how the NHS is overwhelmed , under pressure etc etc , and many of us have had frustrating experiences with medical services - we need to get over that and accept that and move forward with life with T. Most countries in Europe have same problems and many, many other places around the world the situation is much worse . We T sufferers on this forum have to direct our time and energy into coping strategies.

Right i agree what u said and i hoped my tinnitus will be treated in the way you mentioned, if not then just trust and respect the health profession.

Oh else, go work some more hours and pay for private, just because of limited resourced and different pracise doesnt change the fact that in both medical professional in different places is also professional, patient and attentive to tinnitus , perhaps as a layman , i dont understand how hard their job is , and how stressful their life is under. And also since we know almost nth about medicine, there is no room for discussion with them in clinic. If i find that my treatment i mean both medical and getting along is different, most likely its i dont comprehend or misundestand because each individual varies, its hard to draw a conclusion just by my lame discription. Being a layman of medicine or basically everything , we could just trust and respect , most of the time it takes a PhD to start a productive and constructive discussion regarding medical service

PABLR in reply toToughmathew

Once you have tinnitus it doesn't matter how it was caused, the result is the same. There's not a lot you can do for tinnitus. Some things work for some people but most things don't work for anybody. Also every one is different in how they got it, how they deal with it, what goes along with it. Here in the States no-one (after the initial consult) really mentions my tinnitus, they focus on my hearing loss. You need to find a way to get used to it and put up with it. You are 'lucky' you don't have hearing loss if I'm reading your messages correctly. I've said it to you before and I'll say it once more, you are so stressed out by this I would suggest therapy would be more helpful than chasing a cure that isn't probably there.

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply to

When people keep saying , its not appropriate to mention sth hereYes self care or habituation is extremely important, but like many disease i know t is a symptom but as discomfort, medical service is equally important

You could say this should be done in paitent manager setting, however sometimes voice out will be a way towards improvement , thats basically democracy is about pardon my politcal crap, but i am strongly held so

in reply toToughmathew

You can't cure T. What do you actually want the NHS to do?

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply to

Everyone knows that, then how come most of people here would go to the dr then

in reply toToughmathew

I don't know, but i don't keep going on about the NHS

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply to

Sometimes blame the victim and shift the blame to weak individual is no good, even people trust my experience in nhs , anyway if i praise their service and encourge them a lot then those comment is always welcome , on the other hand if i tell the truth of the process , and its objectively not so good, then i m just sending negative message. In psychology we all know positivity helps and negatives otherwise,

But lets think about if u re illtreated

How would u think when people ask u to stay positive and dont review the opposite

in reply toToughmathew

I don't know what you're on about. If you have a complaint about the NHS, tell them. You post alot about the same things and it's tiring. We are all suffering. And we can't do anything about your appointment.

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply to

Wel i believe i did express my frustration hopr u guys would be happy with your dr service some is luckier for sure some isnt, but when once their recieve brucractic or even irresponsible procedure and when they request those to get empathy and sympathic those medical layman or respect medical health or pls go to nhs complain hotline then we can all see what a phenomenon is.....but when i share how good the nhs staff and dr and nurse is...lots of rounds of applause without any putting down

in reply toToughmathew

I don't know what you've saying, what do you want the people on this forum to do ? Once again, we are all suffering, and this isn't the place to vent about the nhs. We are all sad/madd there isn't anything that can be done about Tinnitus. But honestly you need to move on from the nhs appointment we get that you are angry but there isn't anything anyone on here can do about that.

And as a new immigrant , not about my low English level, but i remember one of the member use the word laborious to talk about nhs, coz of being poor to see privateSo things will be a Vicious cycle for i cant take the stress fine

When i want to find a support worker to go to the gp with me

All i find is a web site or hotline signpost worker

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply topigeonCl-HU

Well i know u would bring this up

I am and i am not being picky am iI am talking about some objective issue that everyone knows what is going on, thats mean if this happens to the brit , i am sure they wouldn't be feeling great

And as I said if people take it even further begger can be chooser then its fine

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply topigeonCl-HU

And its just that talking about nhs here isnt approciate doesnt make what i go through is fake or acceptable, like I say if the lengthy thing is positive and praise then reaction isnt so intense, well my english isnt as good as yours obviously, but you never give any comment on what i said or acknowledge the issue. Well yes again there is no point in chatting about nhs right, period.

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply topigeonCl-HU

And nth to do with my immigration identify when u read back about my referal issue, if u still think oh thats the way life is , let go of nhs stuff be more understanding something like that, then its ok, pls say sth like wrong or right its just a matter of opinion those philosophical things, or did i ever make mistake ? Can justice many things.

Once again i am not talking about long queue , fact that t cant cure or mistakes nhs staff makes , most people know two things sympanthy and empanthy.

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply topigeonCl-HU

Perhaps yes englisg maybe your first langagur i am alright to be criticized about my grammar or bad expression or bad articulation. But pls be a logical guy

Let me post related yo sth you re obviously doing from Wikipedia

A straw man fallacy (sometimes written as strawman) is a form of argument and an informal fallacy of having the impression of refuting an argument, whereas the real subject of the argument was not addressed or refuted, but instead replaced with a false one.[1] One who engages in this fallacy is said to be "attacking a straw man".

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply topigeonCl-HU

Very easy to understand why u feel so offended because i might get in your way, thats direct, then u would have sth againist what i say, coz that nhs issue doesnt get it your way, how come when it comes to health service, you could be so tolerate, when it comes to just some different views of arugment bewteen you and me , you cant even take it softly as nhs. Thats so strange innit?

Toughmathew profile image

Lame metaphor is that when some who insists and stress using animal cruelty free shampool, ironically ones is found eating dogs.People with stand point like me yes on the stand point in patients , i am.

Suz_2 profile image
Suz_2 in reply toToughmathew

yes damaged hair cells is probably the one of the main cause of T , but there are lots of other causes -like medications, head injury ( which happened to me) and many others. You have had hearing test which was normal so the damaged hair cell cause would not apply to you.

Many people do not know the cause for certain , although they can recall various incidents which could have contributed to T and it could be a combination of things.

Private or NHS the result would be the same -in most cases they cannot 'fix' T. You have to find ways to manage it yourself .

What practical things are you doing to cope with and mange the T ?? There has been lots of advice to you on here about this

Hi Toughmathew, Ive seen your posts over the past week and hear your frustration with your tinnitus. I would say that most of us have been through or are still going through what you are experiencing right now. I see you are searching for an answer for your tinnitus and I think you may need to readjust your thinking around this. The NHS will not give you a cure, a private audiologist will not give you a cure, there is no cure as such. There is acceptance which helps a lot with the managing of Tinnitus on a daily basis. I have been through the rough journey of tinnitus onset along with hyperacusis and it is hard. Once i had accepted that Tinnitus was going to be with me for a very long time, maybe always, it helped me move on to the next stage of recovery.

You should look into management techniques, firstly removing any anxiety you may have around the sound. notice any negative thoughts you have around it and challenge them. Look into success stories of people that have habituated, like myself, using sound therapy. Once you have a toolbox that works for you, it gets better. It may seem impossible to believe at this time but your tinnitus will most likely get to a level that you dont notice it anymore unless you focus on it. I now hear mine after typing this but it will dissapear when i focus back on my work :)

The point here is that this must come from you, don't expect a magic pill from the health services as you will set yourself up for disappointment and negative outcomes. There is a ton of experience on here, ask the right questions if you like. 'Search for people, not a cure' (i made that up on a support group once and i think its quite spot on.

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply toDarren6

My most horrible frustration is not about the dr in direct its some people who fear confrontation or controversy while i even just make somr actual statement , u would find they didn't even directly response to my question or hypothesis, just to ask people to mute doesnt get any improvement

Its easy to be a medical pr even if u find something actually wrong

1 you re medical layman u understand nothing, pls trust the professional

2 invidiviual varies google dr cant get u anywhere

3 pls respect their hardwork especialy after covid

4 if I don't like it take it or leave it , or pay for private

How doesnt that sound? Do that then you want to be done by? Think about if sth happen to your friend or family

Would u be say such a thing?

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply toDarren6

As i said i clearly state that i dont expect a cure i dont blame for long queue coz its natural

Pls see what i mean

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply toDarren6

Do onto others as you would have them do onto you. Thats profound

Darren6 profile image
Darren6

I do see what you mean but if you look at this thread, you ask a question about dead hair cells and then move it on to the NHS and the problems around this. This keeps negative thoughts floating around your head and will keep the tinnitus at the forefront due to the stress and anxiety that constant negative thoughts create.

Therefore my advice would be to let all the conversations on here around the NHS go, concentrate on what you can change. If the NHS is 3 months wait then it is what it is. In the meantime use this and other resources to get yourself to a better place. Notice negative thoughts, look for positive stories and try things that may work for you to calm your tinnitus. You will get multiple more help in places like this in the time up to a medical appointment and also thereafter.

Just my passing thoughts though, hope that helps you along your tinnitus journey.

Toughmathew profile image
Toughmathew in reply toDarren6

You re obviously a nice guy who calm me down and in a nice wayThank you but i wanna ask being positive and real tough is of course good for many disease even cancer i agree

But disease wise , isnt it extremely important to have a reasonable medical service as i stated again not about queue and cure

Darren6 profile image
Darren6 in reply toToughmathew

it should be reasonable to have good medical services for any ailment and more the serious ones but realise that the medical service you will probably recieve will only be a small part of your recovery. Most of this recovery will come from yourself, your mental strength and the management techniques that the medical professional and people on these forums can provide.

I really do hope you the best as this was the hardest thing I had ever been through so i can very much sympathise with your situation.
