I'm seeing a councillor who specialises in Poly-Vagal Theory - in short, they're interested in how mental health affects the body. They have helped me with stress-related IBS, now they're recommended SPP sound therapy.
Safe and Sound Protocol therapy involves listening to special music on headphones, and it's largely used to treat anxiety and trauma. Here is a link integratedlistening.com/pro...
My councillor has asked if I'd like to try this, but since it involves stimulating the middle ear, I'm anxious it could make my tinnitus worse. Has anyone tried, or at least heard of SSP?
Thanks

I`ve heard of this as well, cautious for the same reason, hope someone has tried this with success , would be nice to hear of something that makes a difference.....
There has been some push back against the idea of Poly-Vagal Therapy in recent years - medium.com/@drshinshin/r-i-... - and I would be reluctant to undertake any therapeutic process unless I was assured that the person offering it is able to take an issue like tinnitus into account before proceeding with treatment.
Have they previously treated patients who have tinnitus using this method? Without specifying any details, can they offer testimonials as to how well this technique was received?
You're being treated for a separate medical issue, so tinnitus may not be something which is front and centre in your counsellor's mind. For what it's worth, I've been with the BTA/Tinnitus UK for around eight years and I've never come across SSP until you raised it in this thread.
Thanks for your thoughts. I've decided not to risk it.
I left a comment on a YouTube video called 'Safe and Sound Protocol - What is It, and How Does it Work?' and this was the creator's response:
"Tinnitus is one of those things that there are mixed results on. some people say it helps a bit, some say it has worsened tinnitus, others see no change. I would not use SSP if you have no reason to use it other than tinnitus."
