Hello Raneen, I remember you posting a few months ago just before your wedding. I do hope that this all went well and you are settled with your new husband.
We can't diagnose for you here but we can say that tinnitus might well change from time to time. The new feeling could be something to do with your eustachian tube, as you say, or to do with the tinnitus.
As you get older, Raneen, other conditions will happen to you too. It's part of life - life is not all smooth.
Wow.. you remember that .. it was year +.. it all went great thank you so much ...You are right, but this new thing have a sistem.. in lying down on one side.. it should had a reson... I thought someone may have experience this condition and have something to say about it ...
i can go for weeks / months without it then it pops up. Like most of my T related symptoms I've got used to it to a degree, some days are better than others but generally it doesn't bother me like it early on . Hope things work out for.
I see ...is it in one/two ears? ... I had it occasionally too... like once or so in every 2 to 3 months .. but this time it was on immediately when lying down on my right side..
There is a rare condition called middle-ear myoclonus which is often suggested by tinnitus and the fluttering sensations in the ear. I think this is worth seeing an ENT consultant about, but it may also be helpful to think about cognitive behavioural therapy support if you feel distressed by this sensation and your tinnitus in general.
CBT won't take tinnitus away, but it can help you to live with it without it being as distressing or intrusive as it seems to be for you.
I can appreciate how distressing this is for you, on top of normal tinnitus, as movement in the ear is an added intrusion. I've had episodes of ear fluttering and they are scary. When I went to the Tinnitus Clinic at the hospital, they said they hear a lot about ear fluttering from people. Mine can occur randomly in either ear but I also get it on a daily basis in my right ear in response to certain frequencies of sound. I believe that it is a muscle spasm and could be either of two key muscles in the ear.
Since you only get it while lying on your right side, I guess it could be related to blood circulation for you. I have poor circulation and I'm sure it's the root cause of many of my problems. A question... does the fluttering always occur when lying down wherever you are or just when in your bedroom? The reason I ask is, I had a spate of episodes that only occurred in one room and thought they were being triggered by something in the environment, like some kind of allergic reaction, as bizarre as it sounds.
As it's a physical symptom you're experiencing, and not just the mysterious tinnitus, a visit to the Doctor may be worthwhile.
Thank you so much for sharing .. so sorry you have to deal with it in a daily bssis ...
I do had the fluttering but in random ... one or two times every one or two months ... but this was new.. it does not related to one bedroom... I have been sleeping in two different rooms the past 3 days ... and it happend in both bedrooms .. different areas ..
Raneen, I really hope it subsides for you very soon but I will tell you a bit more of my story, just in case it helps you. I had episodes in my left ear that would stop almost as soon as I left the particular room. However, it did not happen at all if I sealed my ears with headphones (conventional over-head ones). It was as if something in the air was agitating my ear canal and, in turn, stimulating the ear muscle - inserting something into my ear canal can sometimes activate that muscle, as can touching my scalp and blinking hard. So, I suggest you try sleeping with ear-plugs in, just to see if something similar is going on with you. Another thought... Does touching or holding the side of your face affect it in any way? I believe those ear muscles are connected to the facial nerve.
Thank you for sharing this with me ... you are right ... when I cover my ear it stops (or maybe it is there but I dont feel it... don't know) ... the weird thing is why it starts when lying down on my right side .. really weird ... it is not random ... and I started to notice that I have fluttering in several places in my left side ... it is not noticeable very much... but I feel something moving under my left eye in the left side of it .. or my left leg at the moment while writing this 😂 ... You still have it till now? same? Less? More
Perhaps you are currently susceptible to it and lying on your right triggers it. If it stops when covering your ear, I suppose you could be putting pressure on the nerve that connects to the offending muscle. Or perhaps you are preventing some airborne irritant from entering your ear. In my case, I never found out what the irritant was (possibly positive ions?) but I did find the source. I feel embarrassed to tell you, as you'll probably think I'm mad, but it was a clock! It has now been banished to storage.
I can also identify with your other muscle spasms. Eye twitching is a common one that I've had from time to time for as long as I can remember. However, I find it much more intrusive in the ear. I have now started to get muscle twitches and spasms in other parts of my body, especially my legs, but just about anywhere. I get sudden twitches almost on a daily basis, particularly when I relax, and occasionally more prolonged spasms - for example, under the skin in my thigh. I suspect it's all part of the same thing. In my last annual health review, I had my electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium) checked, as these can be connected with muscle spasms. They were all normal in my case but it is something worth getting checked yourself.
I took magnesium .. I will try to check the others...Thanks for replying.. I understand what are you saying about the eye twiching .... I had it alot too ... but this is diffrent ... I'm having somthing else .. and it is conecting with the ear fluttering ... it is beside my left eye and it stays a day long ... over 200 times ... I know it is deffrint ... cause I had the regular twiching so many times in my life ...
I will see what a doctor may say... if he have anything to say at all... Im loosing faith with doctors ..
With the eye twitching and other more prolonged spasms around my body, the twitching tends to be fairly persistent and keeps coming back on the same day, but then I might have months between episodes in the same spot. When I went for my last annual health review, the nurse told me that sodium is the most significant of the electrolytes for muscle spasms. I guess you could ask the Doctor about anti-convulsants, but I've never had them and I don't know how well they work.
Hello there are many types of tinnitus all of them are scary they have had a big impact on my life and i have had fluttering tinnitus and the good news is this one stops i can not tell you when that will be but believe me it will stop.
Hi Raneen , I also experienced this fluttering sensation for a year or so after the onset of tinnitus 1 and 1/2 year ago. This was felt mainly in very quiet places or when feeling a little more anxious than usual perhaps. Also when conversing on my phone through the loudspeaker strangely enough. After about a year my brain must have adapted a bit and the symptom then went. I have put a lot of work into my recovery including regular meditation , CBT, diet, sleep, breathing exercises, regular physical exercises, relaxing /creative activities and even acupuncture + fancy herbal remedies . Now in a better place but not totally at peace with it all. Hope you’ll feel better soon .
Hi Billo, I'm happy to hear your improvement, tinnitus is something desperate for me, I can't take my focus off, maybe with cognitive behavioral therapy focused on tinnitus I can improve this perception and get quality of life back..Thank you for your kindness in answering my question.
Hi Billo, I'm sorry to bother you, but what was your routine to carry out your therapies (meditation, breathing exercises, relaxing exercises, etc.) and what kind of medicines and herbs did you use?
Thank you so much for sharing this with us ... the wierd thing that it is not that random... it is conecting with lying down on my right side ... I will try to start a diet it may help with other treatment you sugested ... thann you for shaing
No bother mate. Happy to help if I can . For meditation I joined a Buddhist group in the local area, breathing exercises were part of CBT for tinnitus ( Debbie Featherstone , recommended by BTA) , relaxing exercises I followed a guy called paramahansa yogananda (also meditation techniques like kriya yoga) , medicines like ginkgo biloba, magnesium, multi vitamins for the over 50s but I have stopped taking all supplements now . Acupuncture may have helped a bit . Wanted to try some “myofascial trigger point therapy” (type of physio) given that my tinnitus is the “somatosensory” type . Walking the dog regularly , oil painting , gardening , carpentry projects all help to switch off from tinnitus . Also read plenty of books on the subject and following expert groups on YouTube. Do you have any interests to help you switch off ?
Hi Bill, Thank you so much for the message, could you forward me the youtube links of Debbie Featherstone and paramahansa yogananda please? I am not able to find them.Well, thank you very much for your help, it will be of great value, I am doing cognitive behavioral therapy focused on tinnitus and with great hope of bringing me results.
