Deflated

Had letter from the ENT consultant who I saw in November, who gave me 5 minutes of his time for my 1st appt. He sent me for CTA aortic arch, carotid, intracranial which I had the beginning of Dec.

I am currently struggling with ETD, acute sinusitis which I'm finding torturous, so my letter from him which arrived yesterday has really left me deflated (not because I want to have something wrong, but because it appears I don't have any explanation for my PT)

He said...Your recent CT scan has not demonstrated a cause for your symptoms. Happy to see you again with a new referral should the need arise.

Is that it?? I just am beyond really understanding this....I always thought PT had a physical cause?

Thank you

Hi Holly rain, Personally I think due to lack of understanding from some medical professionals, we sufferers have to find our own way forward as to living with Tinnitus. It would appear that the cause is really unknown as to why some of us have this condition. It sounds as though your scans and tests do not show any actual medical cause which., although very frustrating, is sort or reassuring. Self self is the way to go, look at Tinnitus UK site and keep reading these posts as others always have their own ways of living with this. There are many, many ways of lessening the strain of Tinnitus even though it will not actually cure it. All the best and you are certainly not alone with this.

I’m sorry you didn’t get anywhere with ENT, but at least there’s nothing wrong which is good news, although you are still left with the PT, which is not. Sadly in my experience ENT are utterly hopeless when it comes to tinnitus, on my last referral the ‘Tinnitus Expert’ at my local hospital wouldn’t see me and cancelled the appointment.

my hospital tinnitus expert video appointment , 5 minutes ( waited 8 months for that) Learn to live with it and dont bother with sound therapy". Don't think she had ever experienced any sort of T in her life!!

I'm sorry Kelly. ENT are shocking when it comes to tinnitus. The chap I saw was about as much use as a chocolate teapot. They don't even try to make an effort to seem interested. I'm not sure the advice about not using sound therapy is right either.

I was quite upset after her "advice". I messaged Tinnitus Pat. He explained the problem with using 24/7 sound therapy it doesn't help with habituation. Ok I can understand that. Maybe at the start some people need the sound therapy ,The distress, anxiety, panic attacks etc T can cause. Sufferers need to find a way to cope ". The first time I thought I couldn't live with it . I did (obviously :) Eventually didn't hear it . Hoping same will happen this time . This time have had T a year already and I've been able to cope quite well .

Thanks Philw60. Love the chocolate teapot bit. I'll use that if they ever ask me for a review of the appointment.

Hi am so sorry you have had no diagnosis for PT - i have had chronic ear pain and since September Tinnitus, been to ENT and Maxillo Facial as ENT suggested it jaw related, still no diagnosis, anyway its all ghastly and am just reaching out to you, i recommend Julian Cowan Hill on You Tube who has some helpful suggestions and actually provides hope which we all need and just dont get on the whole from mainstream medicine, it may be worth looking into more holistic forms of help, they cost money but i found quite reasonable, all the best to you.

Thanks for the info on Julian Cowan Hill. He has a book (possibly more) on T too. Not read any but I will look to see if I can get it on Kindle unlimited.

Hi yes I got the one Tinnitus From Tyrant to Friend on my Kindle - read it in one go - it was very helpful for me.
