Early mornings and hearing aids

Hi all

I find my T is most disturbing in the early hours when it is quite alarming too. Despite a high frequency hearing loss in one ear and the prescribing of hearing aids I have found they don't help. In fact, when I do try them I feel they make it worse.

Anyone with similar experiences?

Hi Peejayache, my issues are worst when I wake up which prevents me from getting back to sleep. I am not sure why other than that I am in a quiet space at this time and I have the same issues during the day when I am not busy. When my mind is distracted by activity then I am less likely to hear the noise in my head. I have been told that hearing aids will help and I have applied for some through the UK National Health Service but the waiting list is long. I also have been through a course of CBT which takes allot of work to implement but I now understand the principles. Good luck with your own journey.

Like SixtySix says I find mornings worse especially getting back to sleep. I'd safely say that's a challenge for most of us - lighter evenings and mornings don't help, which is why I have a sleep mask

I've found hearing aids do take some getting used to especially if you have Hyperacusis.

You don't say how long you've suffered or had hearing aids. I'm fairly new to HA and know I have to stick with it and learn to tolerate certain situations.

All the best.

hello - I tried hearing aids last autumn- it was traumatic. I tried for a few days at 3 or 4 hours per day . The tinnitus was reduced when wearing these , but when I took them out it was totally unbearable , traumatic and I couldnt sleep at all. I just couldnt go on wearing them. Audiologist told me to keep trying with them , so I tried again and the T it was just unbearable when I took them out, so much so that i wanted to die. I just went with my own instincts ( against Audiology) and stopped wearing the hearing aids

Hi SurviveT I have found the same. Awful sound after I have taken the aids out but not till some time after. So if I wear them of an evening the sound peaks in the early hours. But it seems only the aids offer a possible long term situation so I try hard to deal with the sound. Inevitably it means getting up early in the morning.

I fully agree with all that is said, nighttime and mornings are the when it’s quiet and there are no distractions.

Comfortable Sleep headphones can help. If you wake up then playing therapy sounds or calming music helps (I currently use the Calm Radio app).

Usually I get off to sleep again, or if not then at least I am relaxed and get some rest.
