does it quieten down?

I have tinnitus in both ears and use white noise via headphones to mask it. However one ear has got a lot louder. Does it quieten down? Is masking it making it louder?

ah what a question! Tinnitus has the ability to change and switch about just when you think you’ve got it licked!

On the website of Tinnitus UK is a section on masking so it might be an idea to read this, or read it again.

The ultimate goal is for you to habituate to it. Speaking personally, I only notice T if I’m unwell or if (just like now) I’m writing about it. After sixty years.

tinnitus.org.uk/understandi... good advice

Hi, masking can help especially at the beginning, you need to try to mask with sounds lower than the Tinnitus sound, i recommend you have a look at Julian Cowan Hill on You Tube or he has an app 'Quieten' he has a positive and informative take on all things Tinnitus related, many people get better, but we have to understand what T is, what causes it and things we can do, he had T a very long time but has recovered, you can find out more about masking etc from his app, he does have a months free trial, you can also email him as he has a website, he has been the most helpful source of positive info for me re Tinnitus, i hope this is helpful,

like Seabob says - see reply, check out Julian Cowen Hill. So much wisdom there.

Hi - I’m definitely with Happyrosie on this one. Each persons T is just that - theirs. I do my best to ignore it, sometimes easier than others. Stress, illness, just dwelling on T too much can make it spike. I’m learning to live with it …. it’s just part of me now. Hope you you do too. ☺️x

make sure the masker isn’t too loud . I think it has to be just slightly lower than the T.
