Local MP

Hi everyone, just wondered if any or you have considered or have done so already contacting your MP? We could all make an appointment with our local MP and stress the frustration we all seem to feel about the treatment we get when we want a referral.

I had to see my GP practice (someone I hadn't seen before) about another matter and in passing, considering the first issue only took 2 minutes to diagnose, I mentioned T. Her response: "I' haven't got time to talk about the T"!!!

This goes to show that they really can't be interested in how we feel about it and it is the emotions that are affected as well as what is going on with the sometimes distressing symptoms.

Just a thought, but if we all went to our MP to talk about it, it might have more of an impact and something might be done once and for all. Instead of everyone having to go through all the trauma of will they or won't they refer and the treatment you receive is somewhat sketchy, it should be a smooth pathway to maximum help and more investment and professionals are needed to deal with the backlog of patients who want to be seen sooner than 14 months after being diagnosed with the condition.

What are your thoughts and hope you're having a good day.

This sounds like a plan, Pink. I’ve a couple of reservations, though.

Firstly, pressure is applied by our charity for this condition, the British Tinnitus Association, on the government. I’m assuming all forumites reading this part of Health Unlocked are members and supporters. If not, maybe your membership fee or donation could help?

Also, the National Institute for Clinical Evidence (NICE) clearly shows the pathways that GP’s should already be following. If a practitioner isn’t doing this then maybe another GP in the practice is.

The BTA published an interview with a GP about this subject a couple of years ago. It gave the GP view and was very very interesting. I’ve trawled through the BTA website to look for it and can’t find it ……

Hi Happy Rosie Good point thanks for your reply. I don't often see the particular doctor I mention so I'll ask to see s different GP if I need to see one in the future.

I thought that MPs could help us but didn't know about the limitations you mentioned. Thanks for raising it.

Well worth looking at for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

That’s the one Pat. It’s so useful and I can never find it when I want it. What’s the search term I wonder?

I always go with 'free webinars' in the search bar 👍

I just listened to Emma Dickson video , she’s quite good , I still believe there’s little we can do apart from self help .
