Hello, I’ve had tinnitus for 7 years now and In that time I’ve had all sorts of spikes which have usually all calmed down. I’m wondering bas anyone else ever experienced a distortion when either yourself or someone is taking or just noise in general. It’s like there’s a robotic type sound with sound ? I hope this makes sense. Find it hard to explain what I mean but I’m hoping someone else has experienced this before could you let me know please? Thank you

I'm not sure but maybe you're experiencing 'double hearing?' Everything is out of sync? I had this once and it was strange. I couldn't understand what was going on.

I have hearing loss, tinnitus and episodic vertigo. Speech and noises sound muffled during 'attacks' but I did once have a situation similar to your description.

Amy I find some of the audio quality on some tv and radio stations terrible especially on my phone, when I switch to a tv programme by a reliable source like BBC tv there is no problem.

I have to admit that my hearing is slowly getting worse, but I am after all nearly 80 years old.

Hope things improve for you.

Take care Mike.

Hello AmyleehIt’s quite a relief to read your report because when I’ve told people about it they can’t understand what I’m talking about. I had a very similar problem about a year ago after a period of very high pitch tinnitus which was dreadful for a couple of days. Voices sounded almost Micky Mouse like which was quite frightening. It lasted for about 2 days and has not returned to that level since. I’ve had distortion since but nowhere near as bad so I’m hoping that it won’t return, it was a stressful time which may have created the issue .

Hi. Yes I have had exactly that where it feels like people's voices sound almost metallic or there is a slight buzz or distortion when they are speaking. I felt like I couldn't really listen to music for a while as well cause of it. I do think it probably is still there but I've kind of habituated or got used to it so for me it's not so much an issue. Plus I enjoy and listen to music. When I was in my 20s and I used to go to very noisy gigs with no ear protection my tinnitus would be very loud with people's voices sounding slightly high pitched and distorted the next day. It would eventually settle down. Hope you are doing ok.

Hi Amyleeh, I have the same problem, that voices, music and some other everyday things sound harsh and metallic.I posted about this a few weeks ago, and I am copying some of the content for you below. Good luck.

I have coped with tinnitus, mainly in my left ear, for 53 years. I'm now 70. I had a bad setback last July when a very loud micro suction wax removal procedure made the tinnitus and my hearing worse. This seems to have pushed a troublesome but bearable situation in to a significantly more difficult problem for me. Doctor told me last month wax had built up again in both ears, so the practice nurse cleared it with water irrigation. They seemed to have a new water irrigator which was louder than the machine they used to use, and this seems to have caused further slight damage.

So, I now have at least moderate level tinnitus in my left ear, slight T in the right ear, I sometimes find it hard to hear what people are saying in conversation, also some voices on tv and radio. In particular, the tone of my hearing seems to have changed. Voices sound rasping and have a kind of harsh metallic edge, and quite a lot of music and certain everyday sounds sound distorted. I also have a slight intolerance of/ sensitivity to louder sounds, particularly in my left ear. Not sure if this is due to so called recruitment, or is even mild hyperacusis.
