Coping with spikes

Hi all,

One of the most alarming things for me is Tinnitus spikes, which caused me to wake up in the middle of the night with unpredictable

2 notes ringing in my head with a random pattern. This was following a concert .

Now 3 months later I am super-intolerant to any sounds, TV, Radio, being in the car, my son's acoustic guitar can all trigger spikes.

I thought that the brain gets used to Tinnitus ?

I used to be able to filter it out and live with it.

What's going on & what should I do?

many thanks people!

I don’t know but you say your super intolerant to any sounds, this sounds like you may have developed Hyperacusis ( spelt incorrectly). Only I get a bit of this with my tinnitus and this condition seems to amplify the sounds . My mother (when she was alive) also had hyoeracusis , if someone washed up at the sink for example , she said it sounded like bombs going off . ( mines not that bad). I do have to have TV and radio fairly low .

One of the joys of tinnitus is that you think you’ve got it sussed and it attacks you from a different angle. You're clearly not a newbie so can I recommend a book? “Tinnitus, from Tyrant to Friend” is pretty good - almost all of it replicates what most of us go through and gives help on how to habituate

I expect you’ve gone through the British tinnitus Association website? Worth a second look for more ideas.

Since it is probably caused by neurological causes I believe that dreaming can bring T on and I also will have it in the middle of the night or when I wake up. A lot happens with the brain when sleeping especially during REM sleep. I have had it for about 2 years and although I have Pulsitile T I am used to it and it is actually better today than it was a year ago.
