Need advice

Hi

I have had tinnitus since 2018 and some days it was quite bad but went to manageable but this last few weeks it’s heightened and driving me mad, I have other health issues as well so this on top makes it worse.

I had all my vaccines and since the last one the tinnitus has got like this.

I was supposed to go to the hospital but I cancelled it due to the rise in covid cases.

I have been to the hospital since 2018 and this appointment was for a hearing aid with a sound device, I wish I had gone now but going to ring on Monday see when I can see someone.

Need advice on what I can do? I know about keep active but due to other health issues I am very limited to what I can do.

Thank you.

Jan

Oh dear this is a nuisance isn’t it. I do know myself if I get anxious about my other health issues it makes my tinnitus worse. Like you I have other health issues and tinnitus loves us to get anxious so it can really enjoy itself , so to speak . Try and calm your little self down , be kind to yourself and try and keep busy , hopefully the t will calm down then too. . If I get into a state , my tinnitus does too . It’s like a cat and mouse game . Put some nice music on , stroke your pets if you’ve got any. My poodles are my life saviour good luck to you and I hope you find your own answer very soon 😊

I am not anxious about my other issues, I have ME I am exhausted doing nothing so it’s not easy when you have these other health issues and I have fibromyalgia too. I can’t have music on 24/7 though and it’s 24/7. I don’t have any pets.Thank you though, I am glad your poodles help you.

Nice of you to reply , you might find with tinnitus that eventually you will get good days and bad days , because the brain learns to habituate eventually. You know at least your not alone, we are all here in the same boat.

Absolutely what Rabbits says.Have a look at the website of the British tinnitus Association where there are lots of tips on what you can do for yourself.

If you’ve not seen a doctor about this you might like to make an appointment. The doc will say “No Cure!” And hé or she will be quite right, but there are ways to mitigate the effects such as reducing your anxiety. Docs in UK should be following the pathways proposed by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence.

I will look on there thank you, yea I did when it first started. He just said as you get older this happy but it’s rubbish I know older people and they don’t have it and I am only 62, I can’t even here the tv properly it’s that bad.

One in ten of the population has tinnitus and it’s nothing to do with age. You might think about having a consultation with another doctor in your practice who is more sympathetic and indeed I’ve just replied to another post of yours - have a look.

Hi Jan. I sympathise .. It's tricky having multiple health problems. I've got cfs/ me & T . They require different approaches. For one I need rest and peace & quiet and for the other activity & sound. I'm still working it out to be honest . I find quiet natural sounds or gentle bursts of activity are a compromise. I hope you get a new appointment at the hospital. All the best .

Hi Jan87

There are lot's of members of this forum that know from their own predicament exactly how you feel, you are not on your own.

I have told myself that I will have to learn to live with Tinnitus, there is no other choice.

The human body is fantastic and has ways of adapting, sometimes it take a while, be patient.

I know how you feel, my tinnitus seems to gradually getting louder and I do not know what the future holds. I am living from day to day.

Take care

Mike

If you ask your GP for a referral for hearing aids you can get free NHS test and aids from Specsavers if you don’t want to risk going to Hospital.

I’m assuming you’re in UK.
