Hello, I wonder if you can help. I have had tinnitus on and off since January 2021. I was under a loud intruder alarm yesterday for 4 to 5 minutes as I was trying to get the code to turn it off. Can that cause long term issues and or spike tinnitus?

Alarm went off very loud
Hi Pink6-
I am very surprised no one answered your question even though you asked it a month ago! I wanted to drop you a reply as my Tinnitus came on after being exposed to a very loud noise as well. I was at a construction site and a warning siren went off before a huge crane was operated. I was directly in front of this siren and Tinnitus resulting out of that loud noise exposure has stuck with me for more than 2 years. Unlike you, I was exposed only for 20 seconds or so. But, the decibel level must have been 120 as it was LOUD. And, I was right in front of it.
I've also read that Tinnitus is usually permanent (tinnitusandyou.com/does-tin... if it lasts anytime beyond 2 weeks. You say yours started in January 2021 and still persists. Mine has lasted for 2 years. It's unfortunate but I think we could be in this for the long haul. I think the temporary Tinnitus kind lasts just hours or maybe a day or two at the most, like how your ears ring after attending a loud concert.
I would love to hear that your Tinnitus went away though, if you are still active in the forum and have at last experienced silence again. Besides being happy for you, it will give me some hope too!
Hi Graz81, I've just picked up your post and thank you for taking time out and considering my question.
I have since bought some ear defenders so they are on when I have to turn off tje alarm at work.
Sorry to hear yours was as a result of the siren on the construction site.
I have on the most part been lucky with the T. It is mainly quietish and hardly noticeable.
It can happen where it will find its level.
Mine started January 2021 out of the blue. I've had MRI and no signs of anything so very reassuring.
I've had hearing tests and it was a case of mild to moderate hearing loss so NHS gave me state of the art hearing aids.
I wonder if they have helped coupled with a positive mindset and pray.
I'm also a Hypnotherapist and had my colleagues perform hypnosis on me. I've also had acupuncture.
I hope you find peace.
