Hi all,

If you don't use Instagram regularly, this shouldn't affect you but we've had a situation arise with a fake account masquerading as the BTA following people and directing them to equally fake sites promising prizes in exchange for identify information and the like.

Helpfully, the account misspells tinnitus as 'Tinnituss', so that's a bit of a red flag. If this account does try to follow you on Instagram, follow this guide from Kerry our Communications manager to report them:

If you have a personal Instagram account, can you please help us to get this account taken down ASAP by reporting it. To do this:

Go to the account @britishtinnituss

Click on the three dots in the top left corner

Click report

Click report account

Click ‘It’s posting content that shouldn’t be on Instagram’

And click on ‘Scam or fraud’

Can you also please:

Click ‘It’s pretending to be someone else’

Try clicking ‘A business or organisation’ (this wouldn’t work for me as it would let me select the real BTA account @britishtinnitus

If the above doesn’t work, select ‘Someone I know’
