Thoughts on duloxetine /tinnitus ?

Just curious - cymbalta /duloxetine 30mg. It is listed as a common side effect (1 in 10 people). My t, though, only worsened about 6 months after I first starting taking it, so can I really say that it was the a possible cause - I am not sure really. Thoughts anyone?

unfortunately, T is a side effect of a lot of meds, but doc wont tell you that before prescribing...just happy to prescribe something and take the money

I take duloxetine for anxiety and depression, didn't realise it could help/hinder T. You live and learn.

Hi LouisepMartin,

I am also considering taking it and I have T. Was it a spike or a permanent worsening ?

My tinnitus changes like the wind direction so I do not believe that it was the med, despite it being listed as a possible side effect. The med has been exceptionally effective against my anxiety, whether just coincidentally to my working very hard on myself to improve my state of mind I cannot say for certain but getting rid of my anxiety has been more helpful than any tinnitus issues. Of course we are all different so what works for one does not work for another. I wish you the very best and wish you a bright future!

Thanks LousepMartin. I have tried 3 antidepressants before and they all made my T worse and now I am very wary. Are you taking just 30mg? I am assuming that Duloxetine did not change ur T at the beginning of taking it. I wish you also the best on this journey

yes 30mg but I could have increased to up to 60mg if 30mg dose the doc said. did not work. My t became almost non existent within 3 months of starting it. I think my t is hearing loss related to be honest. You have to give the med a good chance to work. I believe even if you feel your t gets worse its worth giving a good bash. . Its more likely your anxiety causing you to feel like its worse. Give it a chance to work. I tried mertazipine, fluoxetine and citalopram before sticking with duloxetine which has made things good for me. But each person is different. What works for 1 does not necessarily work for another. Keep positive andy very best to you.

Thanks LouisepMartin,

I also took Mirtazapine, Citalopram and Sertraline. these last two made the T more intrusive at nigh which made more difficult to sleep. I took Mirtazapine for a week but I gradually developed T in my good ear which is why I stopped. Are you sleeping ok with Duloxatine / taking any sleeping tablets?

Hi. I've been diagnosed with suspected peripheral neuropathy (still being investigated), I'm diabetic. The doctor put me straight onto Duloxetine/Cymbalta. 2 weeks later and I've developed pretty bad tinnitus that's constant and stopping me sleeping. I'm trying to work out if it's the neuropathy or the medicine that's caused it.

Any experiences would be useful.

LouisepMartin, are you saying your tinnitus got better and then worse on duloxetine?
