Hi. started experiencing symptoms in left ear about 8 weeks ago. Developed into a constant high pitched whine that never stops. I think its starting in right ear as well. Driving me slowly mad.

Also have a strange sense of what I can only describe as pressure and heat in ear and around it.

This has all been mixed up with being diagnosed with prostate cancer in the summer with an seeming successful operation in October and also some investigations into my eyes after I was refereed by optician.

That led to an MRI scan of head that was given all clear from an eyes perspective and is now being reviewed again after GP referred me with tinnitus which hadn't started when I had the MRI.

So next steps are that review of the MRI and some hearing tests.

I live and work in very quiet environments and and I'm finding this very difficult and overwhelming .

Regards

R

Hello Rob. When you first get T yes, it’s overwhelming. Particularly if you are a little under the weather, as you must be with your recent medical history. You’ve probably read the British tinnitus association website, and have found some tips and tricks there. You’re not alone, it’s very common - but you get used to it.

Personally I don’t mask with anything, though other posters do .... in my case it’s here to stay and I have to live with it. So I tell it that I am in charge of it, it is not in charge of me. I go off and do something pleasant. Today I was walking in a local beauty spot, absolute quiet except for birds and my footsteps .... too interested in my surroundings to bother with T ..... bliss!

I concurr with what Rosie said - you WILL slowly get 'used' to it and will find - increasingly - there are periods when you don't notice it at all. It is a tricky thing to master but you will adapt with time. All the best.

Hi Rob. I have had severe tinnitus for the past four years or so and it is the high pitched very invasive type. I don't mask as such but sometimes when I get spikes and it begins to overwhelm me, I listen to masking sounds on You Tube just to get some respite even if it's just for half an hour. There are so many to choose from so it's just trial and error until you find one which suits you. I hope you find some peace soon. Best wishes.
