Maskers on hearing aids
Hi Yes i use a white noise app on my phone with a Bluetooth sleep mask. Definitely works at sleep time, couldn’t live without it.
Two audiologists have advised me against them. The reasoning is that you become dependent on them rather than using natural habituation. Another member posted something a couple of weeks ago which sounded like they may have become too dependent on them - healthunlocked.com/bta/post...
I was given a white noise masker by Audiology Dept and it did.'t work for me. I don't use it anymore
I have “maskers” on my hearing aids,, I first experienced T over 40 years ago, ear infection in Ibiza as young lad,, did not realize but habituated fully after about 2/3 years, I put this down to me being a young lad and very active,, chasing girls, playing footy and various other sports, discos etc etc,, any way mr T “spiked” 2 years and 2 months ago, unbearable to live with, went to the “dark place very quickly only brought back by some exceptional human beings, so now I am hooked on my maskers, they do the job, I sleep in them , with permission of audiologist, having been through “habituation “ in the past , I believe, no way could I do this again, don’t chase girls, to knackered to play footy can’t do my John travolta bit anymore, but I don’t suffer in fear of going back to you know where, if the price is to be DEPENDENT on my maskers, that’s fine by me,, ok,, if you are a youngster well hopefully your lifestyle is such that you can be busy and successfully habituate, this is just my own personal opinion and not some thing I am saying you must do, it’s purely what suits me and the level of my T is so high I could never imagine at what age that I could habituate,, good luck,,,.
When you say maskers are you talking about white noise or whatever other colour
My hearing aids, which have x4 different sounds on, do not use as “hearing aids” though have some loss the main function is “masking mr T” not completely blocking him out though as instructed by my audiologist who has special interest in T.
Ah i have T mainly in one ear made worse by rapid hearing loss to that ear apparently autoimmune reason. So i have to wear the one aid which frankly according to the nhs audiologist i saw last week aint much good as the loss is do bad ie
80 %gone and she is right. So have an nhs aid size of a small fridge ,to be reviewed in 2 weeks but i get the impression nhs aint that good at supplying aids that have T suppression but lots questions to ask before i part with more cash for a private aid which if my hearing so bad could be waste of money
Hi deltec
I have tinnitus sound therapy hearing aids these produce a noise via a sound generator which is supposed to mimic the sound of the Tinnitus. Have to wear them 8 hours a day, this is challenging, so
Far can’t say they have done much good, level of T still the same.
