I have had tinnitus for over 10 years. Since couple of years it’s getting louder and bothersome. I don’t know how much loud it can get. I guess on a scale 1 to 10 it feels like 8. During daytime it’s masked by everyday noises. I get to sleep very quickly and deep sleep but tend to wake up after about 2 hours and the tinnitus is unbearable at which time I put on my headphones with meditation music and fall asleep. Every night I wake about 2/3 times.
I get the feeling that dreams I have subconsciously affects the tinnitus and makes it louder.
I would like to hear from by one who has similar experiences

Hello sep1953. Certainly I wake after about two hours - you’re lucky you get to sleep quickly - and then every two or three hours afterwards.
I don’t use headphones or any masking, I use breathing relaxation. If I’m still awake after an hour I get up and read a book for an hour. In the summer that’s when I see foxes and hedgehogs outside my window, as it’s getting light before 3.30 a.m.
Generally during the day I can ignore it as I’ve had it for so long it’s just part of life.
Waking in the night is normal once you’re over forty, I believe, it’s just a shame that T keeps one awake.
I don’t know about dreams, though.
And yes, T can get louder the older you are I think
Hi scp1953, I have had Tinnitus for about 9 months now, I have good spells and bad spells with my Tinnitus, at the moment I am having a bad spell, waking up after a few hours sleep then unable to get back to sleep. Think this is due to having a NHS ENT telephone appointment last week with the the doctor more or less telling me just to learn to live with my Tinnitus as there is no cure, I did ask about having a MRI scan, but he said that he thought I did not need one. I have tried hearing aids but these did nothing for my Tinnitus.
I have seen many ENT’s and have had 2 MRI’s but none of these specialists have any idea what’s going on. Their answer is that we have learn to live with it and try meditation, relaxation etc.
In the initial stages when the tinnitus is in the mild form it is quiet easy to manage but now when it is very severe it is not that easy.
Hi, I have had T for over 22 years now , I am now 64- young- but T will be my end, more than anything else ! I notice stress, excitement and worry- really increase volume- as does inflamation of any kind in body and if you step outside the lines in diet- such as too much sweets etc. I have tried to look at it from every possible angle, but increasing age seems to also cause more decline-I feel. You have to go thru many stages of coping mechanisms, and ultimately- try to switch off. Something I believe may amplify the problem is any toxins, viruses or assault on immune system . I am tired of the med. fraternity- never going beyond their standard answers- claiming to be the latest- but in fact have not changed since I began having T over 20 years ago-. I have had a small plug molded in a medical flexible material - that fits my ear- and while it does not solve the problem- it creates a pressure on the eardrum and this has partially helped to quieten the sounding.
