Hi, has anyone had CBT to help with tinnitus? I am so anxious/stressed etc to the point I don’t want to go on. Thank you

Laurel - a lot of people go through the same stage as you, where your anxiety and stress levels are the major things driving tinnitus and making it feel louder and invasive. It's important to know that this may be a finite stage and one which you will move past with some time.
If you can access CBT to help you with examining your reaction to tinnitus and seeing how you might change it, this is an excellent way to get some control back over tinnitus.

Hello Calle. Don't give up! I'm a befriender with the BTA and correspond with 2 ladies on a regular basis. So far the 3 of us have not tried CBT, sorry. Have you seen the latest edition of the BTA mag. QUIET? Page 8 might be helpful to you.
I haven’t seen the BTA mag, where do I get it please?
Hi, I have been having CBT for three months now and it does help. Its worth giving it a try. At the beginning I couldn't see anyway through this but am having more better days than bad now. My nervous energy was so high so needed to work on bringing that down first whilst looking at coping mechanisms and rational thinking. It takes time and still learning to not be scared of the T but in a way better place than 3 months ago. Give it a try. x
I tried CBT it does not work for everyone I could’t find any benefit for me .
Hi Calle
Im suffering at the moment too. Had if for 12 years learned to manage it from the beginning but the last 2 weeks have been hellish., its ramped up through stress i believe and tinnitus is
fed by stress. It is a horrible circle that has to be broken.
Please search for all the help you can get, its out there
Im beginning a CBT course next week and i will update with my progress.
Good luck, stay strong,
Sorry to hear about your tinnitus, I sympathise with anyone who has it as never known anything so intrusive. I have had a couple of quiet days this week but now back with a vengeance. I am still not coping well but look forward to hearing your experience with the CBT. Have you got it through the NHS. I am still waiting to be contacted by them.
Hi CalleLaurel. Just popping back into share some of my favourite, non-BTA tinnitus resources with you.
Hugh Trethowan is a UK-based counsellor who has tinnitus himself and has written some clear and, I think, helpful advice about getting to a point of acceptance with it. This piece is illustrative of his approach - counselling-directory.org.u...
Glenn Schweitzer has some similarly straightforward suggestions to take on board - healthyhearing.com/report/5...
As both gentleman have alluded to, changing the way that you think about tinnitus may be one of the key ways to reduce the stress which can drive tinnitus and make if feel inescapable.
Wishing you the best for the rest of the week
