Recommedation for a CBT course online

Hi all,

I was hoping someone could recommend a CBT online course for my partner who has severe tinnitus, they seem to range from free up to £3k!! He’s looked at the free ones but I think he could do with talking to some specialists too, if anyone has paid for a course and felt it was good please could you let me know the details. Many thanks in advance 😀

Hi Nathalie. Tinnitus UK recommend an online CBT course with Debbie Featherstone. You get 15% off if you're a member of TUK. I haven't done this one myself simply because I prefer face to face or over the phone but other people on the forum have and will hopefully give you the low down. Be careful what you sign up for - £3K is very steep! I'll just add CBT is a very good way to tackle tinnitus distress. It helped me enormously.

that’s great thank you, could I also ask who you have worked with face to face? I also think this would be better but my partner is in India at the moment but perhaps when he comes back he should look at this also. We are in London so lots of people around but I would prefer a recommendation if I can get one 😁

I spoke to a local counsellor at the small health centre near where I live - out in the sticks. Living in London you'll have lots more choice. The only thing I can think of is this. There's a very good book called living with Tinnitus & Hyperacusis. One of the co authors is Lawrence McKenna - a CBT practitioner . I believe he works in the NHS and the private sector in London. Perhaps you could google him. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hello Penny. I'm OK thank you. T is manageable now but health not amazing. How are you? I expect your feet are cold out with the poodles in this weather . Are they still as lively a ever? Bless them 🙂

hello , yes I am ok with my T most of the time, I do find though that I feel the pressure late afternoons and evenings , think it must be when I am getting more tired. Sometimes it’s as if I am in my own world with it, do you know what I mean by that.? Certainly walking the dogs is very good, I don’t like the cold weather and am happier when the sunshine makes an appearance. I do hope that you are ok , like you I have other health issues, mine is mainly arthritis in my back and feet, started doing water aerobics , and joined a slimming world group to keep my weight in check. I don’t seem to be losing much weight though. I do keep trying with everything. Goodnight.

Yes. I know what you mean. T can trap you in your own thoughts sometimes. Water aerobics sounds nice, much nicer than real aerobics. Keep going with SW. My mum lost weight with them several years ago and feels much better for it. Plus you 've got the body magic covered with all the dog walking!

I’ve been going to SW for 4 years. Only lost one stone in that time. I am just under 13 stone , I need to be about 10 stone or less . Stress and being on my own makes me eat sweet things . I have a good week then a bad week. Yes poodles are my life saviour , when I developed this T on top of everything else to worry about , I just cuddle my poodles. Walk in the woods, How are you coping ..?

Weight loss isn't easy so you've done well to lose a whole stone. I know what you mean about stress .. A square of chocolate is the best medicine 🍫 It's so soothing. I buy 70% dark choc because it's meant to be better for you. . Whether it's true I don't know. I'm coping OK. I've had moderate ME for a long time but had a relapse last summer and I'm more limited now. On the upside T is more manageable 🙂

pleased to hear your coping ok . Yes definitely dark chocolate is quite good for us. Bournville my friend used to eat. I’m sorry about the “me”. can it coincide with the. tinnitus ? Only I get a lot of fatigue with the stress of T in the evenings. I do know though that if someone has the me symptoms it’s a total different ball game. As a former homecarer. years ago I think we helped someone with “ me”. I do hope you are ok. I would help you if I lived nearer.

Bless you Penny. That's so kind! I have family locally who help me so it's all OK. The ENT doctor told me there may be a link between ME and hearing loss / T but there hasn't been any research into it. We just have to make the best of things don't we .. 🐶

Oh that’s good you have your family nearby . Most of my family , son and daughter and 6 grandchildren live 90 miles away. I do have a sister one mile away though. Please take care xxx
