I have been given hearing aids by the NHS but I suffer really badly with the occlusion effect as they have a full mould. It was so bad I didn't wear them for about 3 years but I went back last year to ask if I could have an open end put on. The new audiologist keeps saying she doesn't think it'll work, although she did give me updated aids. I've tried them at home watching tv but they don't do much, just scream when certain sounds are played and make my tinnitus worse. I can't imagine wearing them outside or to work. Has anyone else suffered with this and found a solution? What did you do?
thanks

I'm sorry to hear that, but the grass isn't always greener. Wearing mine feels like I've got a bag over my head or you've cut off my whiskers (cat analogy!). I've got to look at downgrading the work I do as it isn't possible to carry on a senior position with this.
Why don't you see another GP, you're entitled to a second opinion. Or go to Boots or Specsavers for a free hearing test? Then you'd have some 'ammunition' for the GP appointment.
