Hearing aids update

Just had my appointment with an audiologist here in France (Audika) They were very good, and the good news is I can get some 100% reimbursed. The are not in the top range but normally cost 1600€. They have some masking sounds built in but are not rechargeable or bluetooth. At the next appointment they with find the level of my T and fit and adjust the levels accordingly. They are RIC and quite small. I'm actually looking forward to trying them now.

Personally I found that aids help, in that the real world is much clearer so the fantasy world in my head - Mr T - is less prominent. Let’s hope things work out well for you.

Hi.As part of the investigations into my T it was identified I had mild hearing loss in the ear I perceive my T is.

Not a significant loss in itself and not enough to warrant a hearing aid but the excellent audiology department suggested trying one to see if it helps with my T.

I think it's made a significant difference, perhaps it's coincided with my increased habitulisation but I think it's more a case of the aid contributing to that.

The aid I've been given is I understand quite basic but it's very good. It can play masking sounds that I use occasionally when my awareness of the T increases and it can also stream from phone .

Hi Rob, great news, which masking sounds work best for you? White noise?

Natural sounds, rain or waves seem best for me. I like monotonous electronic music anyway that helps sometimes so I have couple of Spotify playlists of those two groups. The hearing aid plays white noice itself and I do use it as it's so easy to turn on.

I don't mask a lot, wary of becoming over dependent on it perhaps. My T is quite noticable this morning so might turn it on for a bit.

Was that music you like the cause of your T ? Mine was a very loud rock concert (Biffy Clyro !)

I don't think so, I listen to music but not paricualty loudly. Cause of mine is a mystery, i was quite ill (undiagnosed) for months after a work trip to the far east in late 2019 and during 2020 had quite major surgery due to cancer, i became aware of the T sometime after the operation but I've no idea if there is any link. I suspect not.
